There is nothing quite like the simple pleasure of cooling off on a hot day in a swimming pool, and when it comes to cinema, there is nothing quite like being all hot and bothered watching our screen sirens get all slippery when wet! Sure, we all enjoy a good ole bedroom romp in our movie watching, but there’s just something even sexier about seeing an actor skimped out in aquatic attire (or nothing at all) and lapping it up at the pool. Such hotness isn’t limited to the water itself, as it can be found anywhere a bikini or Speedo is employed and sported poolside.
We’ve already explored the rise of hot 1980s bodacious bodies by the pools, and now it’s time to take a dip into the ’90s, where the stakes were higher, and the bodies were hotterer, and the water was wettererer, and so were your pants.

'Taking Care Of Business' (1990)
After spotting Loryn Locklin’s sideboob as she gets undressed for swimming success, James Belushi probably had to take care of some private business in 1990’s Taking Care of Business.
'Death Becomes Her' (1992)
There’s much life in Robert Zemeckis’ Death Becomes Her, and we just want to thank Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini for giving life to Isabella Rossellini and her amazing backside… exit from this indoor pool scene.
'The Sandlot' (1993)
The not so innocent boys of The Sandlot sure love to play ball, but will they set the record for strikeouts before ever reaching second base with lifeguard Wendy Peffercorn (Marley Shelton).

'Mrs. Doubtfire' (1993)
Mrs. Doubtfire tries her best to cool off at the pool bar, but there’s just too much beautiful scenery to take in – from the ‘stunning woman’ (Betsy Monroe) he wants to buy a drink for to his dripping wet nemesis (Pierce Brosnan), who makes everyone shake their coconuts!
'Showgirls' (1995)
Not exactly sure what transpired in the infamous Showgirls pool scene (at about the 1 hour 25 minute mark of the film), but once you see it, you can never unsee it. There are two warnings that must be issued to the uninitiated.
- Warning #1 – This scene may cause whiplash, for both the actors and the viewers.
- Warning #2 – Elizabeth Berkley’s Nomi Malone may actually be the only person on planet earth that is so much more EXCITED than Elizabeth Berkley’s Jessie Spano was. You’ve been warned!
'Hackers' (1995)
A ‘pool on a roof’ is a running gag in Hackers, but comes to a head at the end of the movie, where our two protagonists (with identical haircuts) Jonny Lee Miller and Angelina Jolie take a dip in one. Thy two were married after the film wrapped, and divorced four years later. However, Hackers remains together forever!
'Species' (1995)
In a man-woman relationship, it’s usually the man who moves too fast, but in 1995’s Species, Natasha Henstridge‘s Eve is the one putting the pressure on to get pregnant as quick as humanly & alienly as possible. That spells trouble for Whip Hubley, who may end up lost at sea, man (see what we did there!)
'Leaving Las Vegas' (1995)
Liquor In The Front, Poker In The Rear – that would have made for a more fitting title to Mike Figgis’ harrowing and hauntingly sexy Academy Award winning Leaving Las Vegas. A film that’s both hard to watch, and hard to keep your eyes off of, especially when poolicious Elisabeth Shue uses her body as a shot glass for the living in oblivion Nicolas Cage. Drink up!
'Tommy Boy' (1995)
A movie with one hot pool scene automatically gets a thumb up, but two?? Then thumbs aren’t the ONLY thing going up!! The classic Chris Farley/David Spade comedy Tommy Boy double dips, first with MILF Bo Derek, and later at a hotel with Lorri Bagley, who navigated the waves of real life love with Farley off screen. Who wouldn’t want to go over those ‘documents’??
'Romeo + Juliet' (1996)
Leonardo DiCaprio sure loved himself some wet kisses. A year before sinking with the Titanic, he, Claire Danes and director Baz Luhrmann went bold with the bard and made everyone’s star crossed lovers, Romeo + Juliet, keep afloat by getting all mushy and Montague-y.
'A Very Brady Sequel' (1996)
Is it acceptable for a step-brother to have his blood boil over (in a good way) at the seductive sight of his non-blood related step-sister? Such is the eternal dilemma facing Greg Brady (Christopher Daniel Barnes) and Marsha (Christine Taylor), here, there, and everywhere, and in the very funny Brady Sequel – poolside!
'Boogie Nights' (1997)
Nobody threw a cinematic pool party better than Paul Thomas Anderson did in Boogie Nights. Admit it, you wish you were invited. It’s as if the good times would never end. Sadly, we know how the rest of the movie goes, and the pool cool rapidly drains into despair and disrepair.
'Lolita' (1997)
Not many people bothered to see the 1997 version of Lolita, which means not a lot of people never got hot and bothered by the deleted scene where our titular minx (Dominique Swain) shimmies and sizzles in front of the ever present watching eye of the older, lecherous Humbert Humbert (Jeremy Irons).
'Poison Ivy: The New Seduction' (1997)
Apparently Poison Ivy was such a movie itch that it had to be scratched FOUR TIMES! The third one, The New Seduction, introduced the world to Jaime Pressly, whose clothing optional swim moves made the quite lasting im-pressly-ion! She plays Ivy’s sister Violet, and let’s just say, she’s far from a shrinking violet!
'Wild Things' (1998)
If you say the word “pool” and then “90s”, the next words out of your mouth have got to be “liquids were invented to pour off of Denise Richards body,” followed by “the world became a better place when Denise Richards and Neve Campbell started sucking face.” The world did become a better place, and sadly, never got any better from that point on. Drats!
'The Big Lebowski' (1998)
If Tara Reid ever won an Oscar it would have had to been for her bikini bod-acious work as Bunny Lebowski, whose tit for tat includes, “You blow on my toes, I’ll blow you for $1,000.” If only there were a cash machine near the pool, it would make things so much easier for the Dude, and for a whole different kind of film. He fixes the cable?
'Rushmore' (1998)
Not every pool scene has to be outright sexy to make this slideshow, and it would feel like a waste if we didn’t include Herman Blume (Bill Murray)’s wilting at his kid’s birthday pool party in Wes Anderson’s Rushmore. Murray’s droll, but winning performance (and incredible mustache) set his career in a new sexy path of work that would capitalize on both his humor and acting talent in the decades to come.
'A Night At The Roxbury' (1998)
The Roxbury Guys (Chris Kattan and Will Ferrell) are forever fishes out of water, and when a topless woman (Deborah Kellner) steps out of the water asking them for a towel, they have no easy answer… including, why was this movie made!
'Cruel Intentions' (1999)
If dudes with ramen noodle hair and no chest hair swimming in pools is your thing – then look no further than Ryan Phillippe‘s ramen noodle hair and no chest hair swimming in a pool in Cruel Intentions!!! I mean, you gotta look somewhere, since looking at Reese Witherspoon in a one piece left a little too LOT to the imagination.
'She's All That' (1999)
Spring Break bikini flings lead to sprung broken hearts when Jodi Lyn O’Keefe reveals she cheated on Freddie Prinze Jr. with reality TV star Matthew Lillard. That single sentence sounds like a complete summary of the 1990s. Long live the 1990s!!! And pools!!!
