A not so long time ago, in a galaxy that is very much our own, Star Wars broke new ground. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story debuted last December, marking the beginning of “anthology” films in the Star Wars canon. Rogue One told the story of the brave rebel soldiers who risked it all to steal the original Death Star plans from the Galactic Empire. Their mission set up the events that sparked very first Star Wars film, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, but we never knew who they were or what they went through to get the plans to Princess Leia. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story finally introduced us to Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed), and the rest of their brave rebel friends.

So when is this incredibly bittersweet tale of courage and sacrifice scheduled to hit Netflix?

July 18, 2017!

Yep, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is coming to Netflix in less than a month’s time. Rogue One is the very first Star Wars film to come to Netflix, but it probably won’t be the last. Netflix inked a major deal with Disney, Lucasfilm’s parent company, a while back that says every “Disney” film released after January 1, 2016 will eventually make it onto Netflix. That’s why you can now stream Disney’s Moana, Marvel’s Doctor Strange, and Pixar’s Finding Dory on Netflix. (Marvel, Pixar, and Lucasfilm are all owned by Disney and included in this deal.)

However, if you can’t wait to until July 17 to stream the film, you have options! Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is already available to buy or rent on VOD. That means you’ll have to throw additional money down, but depending on your level of patience, it may be worth it.
