Hi Wednesday! You ready to get your crush on? Because we sure are.

In honor of the third season of Casual, this week’s Woman Crush Wednesday is Michaela Watkins, one of the most genuine and hilarious actresses out there today. As Valerie, well, the single mom and therapist doesn’t always make the wisest choices. But due to the fantastic actress portraying her, it’s easy to reserve (some) judgment because we love following her adventures.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Michaela Watkins

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: We’ve been crushing on Michaela since she joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2008, which was barely the tip of an ice cube in relation to what her career would blossom into. She’s shown up in some of our absolute favorite TV shows and movies since then, but she remains undeniably great in Hulu’s Casual. Oh, and we’re not the only ones that have noticed. As her co-star, Tommy Dewey explained, “That job becomes so much easier with Michaela because she is emotionally available and very present on every take. I trust her in those heavy scenes, I so appreciate that she’s there for those things. She’s also funny as hell, and we’ve become very close as friends. It’s a cliché actor thing to say, but if you’ve got someone who’s really listening, and there’s not that many that really do because they’re more concerned with their own performance, and you’re willing to do the same, a scene really comes to life, and she always does that and she’s very consistent. I would walk through fire with her, I love her to death.” Damn, would your co-workers say the same about you?

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: After her season on SNL, Michaela popped by The New Adventures of Old Christine as Matthew’s (Hamish Linklater) girlfriend. She played the best pal of Jennifer Lopez in The Back-up Plan, and showed up on shows such as Parenthood, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Private Practice. She also had a role in Wanderlust, opposite Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd, and starred in In a World… which was directed by her real life friend, Lake Bell. Perhaps you caught Michaela on shows such as Key and Peele, Modern Family, or Enlightened? She was also in 2014’s They Came Together and starred in the one-season ABC comedy Trophy Wife, which deserved to live a bit longer, tbh. She’s clearly no stranger to today’s best comedies, scoring roles in New Girl, The Goldbergs, Veep, Married, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, Transparent, and Drunk History. Let’s face it, you aren’t a real comedy show unless Michaela has stopped by.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Michaela can be seen in Person to Person and Brigsby Bear, two films that will hit theaters this summer. She’s also got the films Dude, The House, Antiquities, and A Kid Like Jake coming down the pipeline as well, which is fantastic news for all of us. You can currently watch the first 3 episodes of Casual season three on Hulu, with new episodes to follow each Tuesday. Mark your calendar, you’ve got a date with Michaela that you won’t want to miss.
