Amazon’s Spring 2017 Pilots Debut On March 17th — Including One From Amy Sherman-Palladino!

Amazon announced today that it will premiere its spring 2017 pilots on Friday, March 17th, and this year’s lineup is a real doozy. There are superheroes, a pot comedy, Amazon’s first adult animated show, and Amy Sherman-Palladino — what more could you want?

Beginning on the 17th, viewers in the US, UK, Germany, Austria, and Japan can head on over to Amazon Video to check out the 5 new pilots, including 3 half-hour comedies and 2 hour-long shows. They are:

The Legend of Master Legend

This half-hour dark comedy is about a homemade superhero, Master Legend, who attempts to protect the people of Las Vegas from all forms of evil. Oh, but his family isn’t really buying the superhero thing. The show stars John Hawkes and comes from the producers of 20th Century Women, Argo, and Transparent, plus the pilot is directed by James Ponsoldt, who also directed The Spectacular Now.

Budding Prospects

An ’80s pot comedy! Adam Rose, Joel David Moore, Will Sasso, and Brett Gelman star in the pilot about a group of dudes who move outside San Francisco to grow pot in a less-than-pleasant location.

The New V.I.P.’s

The New V.I.P.’s is Amazon’s first adult animated show about a crew of low level employees who accidentally murder their boss and then take control of a major corporation. You’ll hear the voices of Matt Braunger, Ben Schwartz, Missi Pyle and Jonathan Adams, in the show created by Steve Dildarian (The Life & Times of Tim).

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Written and directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive produced by Daniel Palladino (perhaps you’ve heard of Gilmore Girls?), The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel takes place in 1958 Manhattan and stars Rachel Brosnahan as Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a gal who seems to have it all until she discovers her hidden talent for comedy and her life takes a big turn — towards Johnny Carson! Tony Shalhoub, Alex Bornstein, and Michael Zegen also star in what is sure to be the wittiest of Amazon’s pilots.

Oasis

For some reason, this one-hour pilot is not about the British rock band? But it does star Game of Thrones‘ Richard Madden as a chaplain who heads off to space to establish a colony on a distant planet, and will have his faith, and faith in life, tested every step of the way. The show also stars Anil Kapoor, Haley Joel Osment, Mark Addy, and Maureen Sebastian.
