How Teyana Taylor Stole The VMAs With Kanye West’s “Fade”

Beyoncé, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande all made triumphant appearances at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards, but one up-and-comer completely stole the show. Singer Teyana Taylor boogied into our hearts last night in Kanye West’s official music video for “Fade.”

Kanye West is fond of using any platform to make a big statement and during last night’s award show, he not only gave a classic Kanye speech, but he also debuted the electric video for his new single “Fade” — which is streaming exclusively on Tidal. The music video starred Taylor and her real-life fiancé, Cleveland Cavaliers player Iman Shumpert, and featured the lithe Taylor in a Flashdance-inspired dance number and a scene where she became…a cat person? All in all, it was incredible.

The thing is Teyana Taylor should have already been on your radar. The sultry Harlem-born songstress has already contributed vocals to some of West’s previous hits — namely “Dark Fantasy” and “Hell of a Life” — and she appeared in a Jay-Z music video all the way back in 2007! Taylor’s own music career is burning up. Her first album, VII, was a Billboard hit on the R&B charts back in 2014 and she has a new single with Chris Brown out right now.

Taylor is also famous for her personal life. In addition to being engaged to Shumpert, she made headlines last winter when she went into unexpected labor. What does that mean? Well, it seems she was asleep during most of it. She woke up and Shumpert helped her deliver their daughter Iman Tayla on the bathroom floor!

On Dec 16th at 6:42am in our bathroom Junie decided she wanted to take her first breath into this world. She came out as a wonderful surprise to everyone! Not knowing I was in labor until I felt her head…it took two ten count pushes with my fiancé playing Dr and she entered this world into his bare hands! Eyes full of tears and barely able to speak to the emergency operator @imanshumpert tied a pair of red headphones around the umbilical cord and the ambulance made there grand entrance 5 min later. She opened her eyes right away, gazed into mine and never cried! He handed her to me wrapped in our bath towel and wiped her face for me to see what LOVE really is. She has blown Christmas away! Our family is complete. Her blueprint will be unmatched. Welcome Iman Tayla Shumpert Jr. Mommy carried you. Daddy delivered you. #MeetTheParents we love you baby girl💂🏾🐞👶🏾
