During a brand new interview, HBO’s Game of Thrones show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss gave a little insight into what viewers can expect from Season 7. Season 6 of the hit series ended with the tragic suicide of Cersei’s son and former King of the Andals, Tommen. Tommen’s suicide is believed to have been the result of his heartbreak over his wife Queen Margaery, who died during Cersei’s fiery and vengeful attack on King’s Landing.

The glorious attack was the willful Cersei’s first victory in a while, after she previously paid the price (i.e. nude walk of shame) for each offensive she took against the High Sparrow. Tommen’s death, which could have also been the result of the powerlessness he felt over his mother’s iron fist, also signified the death of the now Queen Cersei’s last child.

“That’s what so much of next season is going to be about; finding out what Cersei’s mindset is, and who is she?,” the creators proclaimed during the interview with Deadline. “Cersei has certainly done a lot of horrible things in her life and she could be a very cruel person, but the one thing that was redemptive about her was she genuinely loved her children. Now they’re all gone, and I think that is very interesting for us. Who is she, without her children?” The answer, they say, will become clear in Season 7.
