WHEN YOU’RE FEELING N.W.A. NOSTALGIA: ‘STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON’

Do yourself a favor and check out this film now because I promise you’ll be hearing more about it once we really get into awards season. This biographical drama chronicles the rise and fall of the legendary hip hop group, N.W.A. And in case you’re wondering whether or not this film has the group’s seal of approval, it definitely does. Produced by Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Easy-E’s widow, this may be one of the most authentic looks into a highly influential period of American music.

WHEN YOUR FAVORITE SHOW STILL ISN’T BACK: ‘SHERLOCK: THE ABOMINABLE BRIDE’

This should hold you over. Though it’s technically a special episode of the BBC cult-classic, Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, it’s counting it as a movie due to its 89-minute run time. For the first time in the series, our favorite, often-misanthropic British detectives are in Victorian England, to which we say YES PLEASE. This is one to add to your ever-growing Sherlock collection. However, if you want to see the special but don’t want to shell out the dough, you’re also in luck. You’ll be able to stream the special starting January 11 on PBS’ Masterpiece but only for a limited time.

WHEN YOUR CAREER IS GOING NOWHERE: ‘THE INTERN’

At least you’re not 70 and still fetching coffee. Though to be fair, we would do a lot to intern with Robert De Niro. After retirement proves to be too boring for him, Ben (De Niro) applies for an internship at an up-and-coming company and is hired by its CEO (Anne Hathaway). It’s an easy pick for date night, and we hope it’s an indication of De Niro’s professional future. We can totally see De Niro hating retired life.

99¢ iTunes Rental: Cop Car

Starring Kevin Bacon, things start off nice and innocent in this American road thriller. However, when two young boys stumble upon an abandoned cop car and decide to take it for a joy ride, things get complicated – mostly because there’s a hostage in the trunk and the car is owned by a murderous psychopath (Bacon). Uh-oh.

iTunes Deal: Django Unchained

Right now, you can buy this Tarantino classic for just $4.99. Sure, the film is also available on Netflix at the moment, but you never know when that particular contract is going to expire. Snatch it up, but remember not to press play with your mom in the room.
