Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser

It’s easy to overlook Crackle in the streaming shuffle. After all, they haven’t nabbed a huge amount of Emmy buzz, recently lost their exclusive streaming rights to Seinfeld, and are best known as the home of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. But Crackle is one of the only streaming services that can prove that they’ve produced a true ratings hit.
AdWeek reports that the original Crackle production Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser has been seen by more 1 million viewers since it debuted last Wednesday. The streaming service added that the film was viewed 278,000 times in its first 24 hours.
In an official statement, Crackle and Sony Pictures Television executive Eric Berger said, “The reception we are seeing from viewers in such early stages of the film’s release bodes very well for our original movie efforts—we are looking forward to continuing to develop and produce quality content on Crackle.”
Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon currently refuse to give out official ratings numbers, so there’s no real way to ever know how many people really are watching House of Cards or Transparent, and how many are just talking about it at dinner parties to sound cool. Crackle is claiming that they will continue to provide total ratings transparency. Maybe this will finally put the heat on their rivals to reveal how popular their programing really is and we’ll finally know the answer to the question that’s plaguing us all this morning: Can Bloodline possibly be as popular as Joe Dirt 2?
