It’s a great time to be an X-Files fanatic. Not only is the original series not leaving Netflix anytime soon, but Fox just confirmed that the original creative team is reuniting for a brand new adventure.

The show’s creator, Chris Carter, and its two original leads, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, are returning to make a limited series for Fox. But don’t call it a comeback. Carter said in a statement, “I think of it as a 13-year commercial break.”

It has indeed been 13 years since The X-Files signed off in 2002. The series combined the classic detective series model with a creepy science fiction vibe. For nine seasons, the show thrilled, chilled, and warned us that “the truth was out there.” The new series will give viewers six new and unique adventures. Carter elaborated by saying, “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger [and it is] a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

Sure, that’s good news, but the best news is that this new series will bring Mulder and Scully together again. Besides being a modern science fiction classic, The X-Files was also one of the best slow burn romances in television history. Which basically is to say, “MULDER + SCULLY 4EVA.”

Production on the new season will take place over the summer, but you can stream the original series here.
