Oscar contender Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance) focuses on washed up actor Riggan Thompson (played by Michael Keaton) as he tries to shake the legacy of his career playing Birdman (a fake superhero that is clearly based on Batman).
So, the fine people over at Fox Searchlight, the studio producing Birdman, thought it would be fun to make a fake trailer for one of these Birdman blockbusters of the ’90s. Well, it’s more than just fun. It’s pretty freaking awesome.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vueAC31glPQ]This Birdman Returns trailer has all the kitschy hallmarks of a classic ’90s Batman trailer. You get the dramatic voice-over, the VHS film quality, the foreboding music, and it even shares a title and release date with Keaton’s last Batman film, 1992’s Batman Returns. The trailer goes even further and satirizes the Batsignal over the Gotham night sky and lampoons Tim Burton’s obsession with watching Batman get ready for battle, one accessory at a time.
Now, how long until some producer gets the idea to make a real Birdman flick?
