Final Shots: HBO Go and Showtime Anytime May Soon Be Available Without A Cable Subscription

Is premium cable on the way out? Maybe. HBO and Showtime are said to be thinking about offering their services to direct to consumers. Both Time Warner (which owns HBO) and CBS (Showtime) have finally decided it might be time to offer up Internet-only subscriptions, reports Deadline. But while both companies are finally ready to consider the possibility, they haven’t gotten there just yet. “We have the rights. We can do it if we want to now,” Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes said. “But we don’t want to do anything that’s not at a high level.” His counterpart at CBS, Less Moonves, agrees, saying: “Is there some time in the future when that could happen? Absolutely. I don’t know when that is.”
