The Buffalo Sabres traded former top-10 draft pick Matthew Savoie to the Edmonton Oilers for forward Ryan McLeod and forward prospect Tyler Tullio on Friday.

Savoie, 20, was the ninth overall pick of the 2022 draft but has played in just one NHL game so far. He took five shifts for a total of 3:55 on ice for Buffalo against the Minnesota Wild on Nov. 10, 2023. The Sabres reassigned him to the Western Hockey League after that.

Savoie was a highly touted prospect coming out of the WHL. A native of St. Albert, Alberta, which borders Edmonton, he will now join his hometown Oilers.

McLeod, 24, has appeared in 219 career games for Edmonton since the 2020-21 season and tallied 75 points (32 goals, 43 assists). He set career highs in goals (12), assists (18), points (30), plus/minus rating (plus-10) and games played (81) last season. McLeod added four goals in 24 playoff appearances as the Oilers reached the Stanley Cup Final.

Tullio, a fifth-round draft pick by Edmonton in 2020, has yet to appear in an NHL game.
