The Los Angeles Angels activated third baseman Anthony Rendon from the 10-day injured list prior to Monday night's home game against the Texas Rangers.

The Angels designated infielder Miguel Sano for assignment in a corresponding move.

Rendon has been sidelined with a left hamstring strain that he sustained while legging out an infield single against the Cincinnati Reds on April 20.

Rendon is in Monday's starting lineup, batting leadoff and playing third base. The plan is to have Rendon serve as the designated hitter on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old Rendon was batting .267 with three RBIs in 19 games prior to the injury.

Rendon is in the fifth season of a seven-year, $245 million contract. He is batting .283 with 158 homers and 660 RBIs in 1,135 games with the Washington Nationals (2013-19) and Angels.

Rendon was an All-Star for the Nationals in 2019.

He has appeared in just 219 games with the Angels due to injuries. His 58 games in 2021 were his most in a season wearing an Angels uniform.

Sano, 31, was batting .205 with two homers and six RBIs in 28 games with the Angels.

Sano has a .233 career average with 164 homers and 424 RBIs in 722 games with the Minnesota Twins (2015-22) and Angels. He was an All-Star for the Twins in 2017.
