A24 on Monday morning unveiled the first trailer for MaXXXine, the anticipated final entry in its trilogy of slashers teaming writer-director Ti West and actress Mia Goth. Pic’s slated for release in theaters nationwide on July 5. The trailer can be found above.
Released to critical acclaim in 2022, X had Goth pulling double duty as Maxine — who sees her pornography-shooting friends violently murdered in Texas — and one of their elderly assailants, Pearl. Released the same year, the sequel Pearl, set in 1918, served up an origin story for the latter villain character.

But MaXXXine reverses the franchise’s trajectory through time to pick with Maxine as she continues her journey towards fame after the violent events of X, setting out to make it as an actress in 1985 Los Angeles. As the mysterious serial killer known as The Night Stalker looks to make victims of the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal Maxine’s sinister past.
The trailer introduces Kevin Bacon as a private detective hired to find Maxine, also teasing scenes taking place at the site of the Psycho house on the Universal studio lot.
Also starring Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.), Moses Sumney (The Idol), Michelle Monaghan (Nanny), Bobby Cannavale (The Watcher), Lily Collins (Emily in Paris), Halsey (Americana), Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul) and Kevin Bacon (City on a Hill), MaXXXine is produced by A24, Jacob Jaffke, West, Goth, Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss.
Set to unspool Alex Garland’s buzzy dystopian actioner Civil War on April 12, A24’s slate for the year also includes Jane Schoenbrun’s I Saw the TV Glow (May 3) and Annie Baker’s Janet Planet (June 21). Its TIFF drama Sing Sing, starring Colman Domingo and Paul Raci, is also expected to hit theaters in July.
