Netflix has dropped a trailer for Richard LaGravenese rom-com A Family Affair, which stars Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Joey King, Kathy Bates, Liza Koshy, and Sherry Cola. The film is produced by Alyssa Altman, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Joe Roth. Michelle Morrissey serves as executive producer.
Written by Carrie Solomon, the story follows a surprising romance that kicks off comic consequences for a young woman, her mother, and her movie star boss as they face the complications of love, sex, and identity.
“Nicole brings with her so much experience and so much talent and intelligence. She’s like your co-filmmaker,” LaGravenese says. “And then she’ll also address what the film needs. There’s two scenes that came out of her saying, ‘I think we’re missing a beat here.’ ”
The older woman, younger man trope in film is getting revitalized after the popularity of Amazon’s The Idea of You starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, which follows a similar premise to A Family Affair. There is just an audience thirst for romantic comedies in general as Sydney Sweeney film Anyone But You raked in the big bucks making a net profit of $103M on a $25M budget.
