Kevin Costner (Actor)

Kevin Costner was born January 18, 1955, in Lynwood, Calif. After he graduated from business school at California State University, Fullerton in 1978, Costner got into acting after he met actor Richard Burton on a plane. Burton had encouraged Costner to go to Hollywood. His scenes in The Big Chill (1983) were cut while others who starred in the film gained breakthrough momentum with their roles, but director Lawrence Kasdan cast Costner in the Western film Silverado (1983) before he starred in The Untouchables (1987) and No Way Out (1987).

Costner married Cindy Silva in 1978 and they stayed together until 1994. The actor briefly dated Bridget Rooney, with whom he had a child — Liam Costner. He then married Christine Baumgartner in 2004, who had met while he was married to Silva. Costner and Baumgartner share three children — Cayden Wyatt, Hayes Logan and Grace Avery. Baumgartner filed for divorce in May 2023. They finalized the divorce in February 2024.

Costner is also known for baseball films Bill Durham(1988) and Field of Dreams (1989). He started his own production company in 1989, Tig Productions. He then produced 1990’s Dances With which tells the story of an American Civil War soldier who assimilates into a Sioux community. He won the Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director for this film as well as a Golden Globe. He is also known for starring in The Bodyguard alongside Whitney Houston.

Another Western Costner directed was Outer Range in 2003, and he won an Emmy for his portrayal of Hatfield patriarch ‘Devil’ Anse Hatfield in the Hatfields & McCoys TV series. Other notable appearances include that of Jim White, cross country coach in McFarland, USA(2015), Al Harrison in Hidden Figures (2016) and Larry Bloom in Molly’s Game (2017).

He went back to television as John Dutton in Yellowstone through Part 1 of Season 5. He will also release a multiple-part film series called Horizon: An American Saga, the first two installments of which land in theaters this summer. He also plans to build a film studio in Utah.
