Don Johnson is set for a lead role in the ABC drama pilot Boom, from producer Tony Krantz and ABC Studios. Written by Josh Pate and Rodes Fishburne and directed by Jonas Pate, Boom examines the biggest oil discovery in American history — bigger than Texas and as big as Saudi Arabia — which has triggered a geopolitical shift and an economic boom in North Dakota on a scale not seen since the 1849 California Gold Rush. Nash Bridges and Miami Vice alum Johnson will play Hap Boyd, a tough, mega alpha male oil tycoon, an oilfield legend. He will also executive produce alongside Krantz and Josh Pate.
Johnson recently recurred on El Rey’s From Dusk Till Dawn and appeared in the Saturday Night Live episode hosted by his daughter, Fifty Shades of Grey‘s Dakota Johnson, alongside Dakota’s mom, Melanie Griffith, who also just booked an ABC pilot, the untitled Molyneux family comedy.
