Exciting week of collaboration and innovation in Berlin!
From June 29 to July 5, 2024, we hosted a dynamic exchange programme with a delegation from Ghana's Kantamanto community, in partnership with The Or Foundation. Coinciding with Berlin Fashion Week, this initiative focused on advancing dialogue on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in the textile industry. Our diverse group of designers, retailers, and waste management experts engaged in a packed schedule of activities.
Highlights included:
– Upcycling workshops and visits to sustainable fashion initiatives
– Discussions with local innovators on textile and electronic waste solutions
– Participation in the #202030Summit, addressing waste colonialism
– A roundtable at the German Bundestag on the EU Waste Framework Directive
– A multi-stakeholder workshop at Zalando HQ on equitable EPR policies
Key takeaways:
The importance of supporting textile resale and reuse, the need for differentiated assessment of textiles, and the critical role of community engagement in addressing waste challenges. This collaboration between Germany and Ghana shed light on both the challenges and innovative solutions in textile waste management.
We're grateful to our delegates, partners, and supporters for making this exchange a transformative experience. A big thank you to the fantastic delegation – Elizabeth (Liz) Ricketts, Branson Skinner, Latifa, Nabi, Mawuli, Paul, Rebecca, Solomon, Bobby Kolade – our funding partners, Dr. Elisabeth Winter, Lavinia Muth, Max R. Gilgenmann, and everyone involved for making this exchange a truly transformative experience.
Looking forward to leveraging these insights to shape more sustainable and equitable policies in the fashion industry. 👀 The full recap can be found on our website: https://lnkd.in/dfQDRWZ3
