In Venture Capital, what are the most effective ways to showcase your creativity?
VCs should eat their own dog food. While VCs invest billions in the latest state-of-the-art technologies, quite often the tech stack of firms is quite dated. This disconnect not only undermines their credibility but also limits their ability to understand the challenges and opportunities facing the startups they invest in. For example, as a climate tech VC, I only understood EVs when I started driving one.

What are the common pitfalls and mistakes for VCs to avoid as board members?
VCs have one task -> push the entrepreneur to think bigger. When founders decide to take VC money, they subscribe to accelerated growth. At the board, VCs and founders sync on the status and next steps to achieve this goal.

How do you analyze valuation models?
Beyond valuation, you should consider the entire cap table structure. Not just what your holdings will be (the output of the valuation model), but also what the founders and other co-investors have. You need to ensure that all parties are incentivised and that it is easy to pass decisions. For example, founders post-series A should still have around 50% of the company. Also, you should make sure no investor has a de-facto veto right. A clean cap table is key for a successful journey.
