    Professor Wil van der Aalst is among 95 distinguished computer scientists named 2020 Fellows by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). He is recognized for his "contributions to process mining, process management, and data science".

    The ACM Fellows program recognizes the top 1% of the association's membership for outstanding accomplishments in computing and information technology and/or outstanding service to ACM and the larger computing community.

    In the last year, Professor Wil van der Aalst was elected as a fellow by the three main associations in the field of computer science and electrical engineering: the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), and now also the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).

    ACM Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is seen as a prestigious honor and a significant career achievement. Prof. Van der Aalst is one of the leading researchers in the fields of (1) process mining, (2) process management, and (3) data science. He laid the foundations for the Business Process Management (BPM) discipline. At a very early stage, he noted the importance of data-driven process analysis and created the first process mining techniques for process discovery, conformance checking, and predictive process analytics. Currently, there are over 35 commercially available process mining tools (Celonis, UiPath, Fluxicon, Mehrwerk Process Mining, Myinvenio, Minit, QPR, Lana, PAFnow, TimelinePI, Signavio, etc.) based on his work over the past two decades.

    Piscataway, New Jersey, USA, November 25th, 2020. prof.dr. Wil van der Aalst, from RWTH Aachen University, Germany, has been named an IEEE Fellow. He is being recognized for his contributions to process mining and workflow processes. Wil van der Aalst is one of the most-cited computer scientists in the world and is commonly referred to as the “Godfather of process mining” with many software companies founded based on his ideas.
