SOLAR MATERIALS
Taking advantage of opportunities and reducing bureaucracy 📂 This summarizes the outcome of our meeting with Robert Habeck (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz) at SOLAR MATERIALS yesterday. As a technology leader in the recycling of solar modules, we are trying to cope with the current rush of used solar modules and build up capacities for our customers in a timely manner. However, we can only do this if we also go through all the necessary authorisation procedures promptly. Concrete proposals to the Minister were therefore: 🚀 A positive review of authorisation procedures that allows an early start. Not only in relation to construction measures, but also to operation. 🏭 A type approval for installations requiring authorisation so that complete procedures do not have to be carried out at every location. 🇪🇺 The early involvement of all stakeholders in new EU regulations that ultimately end up in national law and the possibility of authorising exemptions. We are therefore very pleased with the willingness of the Minister, the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Tourism, Agriculture and Forestry (Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Energie, Klimaschutz und Umwelt des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt) to work hard to find solutions here.

#BalanceNeueEnergien a 100% subsidiary of #VNGAG has acquired another Biogas plant in my home province of Saxony-Anhalt further driving the development of sustainable alternatives for #NaturalGas, since #Biomethane #RNG can 100% substitute fossil #Methane and is 100% backwards compatible with the existing natural gas infrastructure, on top it helps stripping #CO2 from the air and use it either to replace #fossil #Carbon or sequester it permanently and create negative #CO2 emissions.

Europe's largest producer of green electricity cancels plans for new wind turbines Europe's largest producer of green electricity is suddenly scaling back its ambitions for wind turbines and solar power plants. Why is that? 28.06.2024 Due to lower electricity prices and higher costs, Europe's largest producer of renewable energy - Statkraft - is scaling back its plans to build new wind and solar power plants. The Norwegian state-owned energy company announced the growth cuts on Thursday. According to company boss Birgitte Vartdal, the market conditions for the entire renewable energy sector have become more challenging. What does this mean? Offshore wind energy: new targets, less output The targets were high. Too high? The company, which mainly produces its electricity from hydropower, actually wanted to generate two and a half to three gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy per year from 2025. According to Statkraft, this corresponds to the construction of a new wind, solar or battery plant every nine days. From 2030, the company even wants to increase this capacity to four GW per year, as stated on its website in March. However, this now looks different, as the British daily newspaper Financial Times reports. The new target: "only" two to two and a half GW per year from 2026. In the offshore wind energy sector, the Group is aiming for a total output of six to eight GW by 2040, according to the statement. By comparison, the previous target is said to have been ten GW. "We still firmly believe in offshore wind energy and would like to stay there, but we are scaling back our ambitions somewhat," says Group CEO Vartdal. Statkraft is not alone in its withdrawal. Several European energy suppliers have put the brakes on their growth plans in the past year. For example, the Danish energy company Orsted, the world's largest developer of offshore wind energy, has lowered its targets for 2030 by more than ten GW. The company cancelled two offshore wind projects in the USA at the end of 2023 and announced impairment losses of 3.8 billion euros. Energy consultant at Rystad Energy: "This is not good for the energy transition" So far, so calm. Energias de Portugal (EDP), Portugal's largest energy supplier, also cut its three-year investment plan in May, citing deteriorating market conditions as the reason. More specifically, it was about "enabling lower electricity prices and an environment of higher interest rates over a longer period of time", said EDP Managing Director Miguel Stilwell de Andrade. Similarly, according to the report, the French state-owned energy supplier Engie has postponed its goal of developing hydrogen projects with a capacity of four GW between 2030 and 2035. The development and structuring of the market is progressing more slowly than predicted a year ago. The S&P Global Clean Energy Index, which includes manufacturers of wind turbines and solar modules, has fallen by 25 per cent since July last year, according to the report

Interesting, enspired. With the higher penetration of renewables in the energy mix, "rare" events of sudden power supply/availability drop may become more frequent? What if wind suddenly stops in spite of a forecast of it blowing hard? We are getting better at forecasting but weather models are stochastic models and subject to probability distributions. In this case, readiness of frequency reserves and balancing becomes crucial to maintain the electricity system stability. #BESS to the rescue? Not a silver bullet but it can certainly help manage the risk.

An interesting read in today’s German business daily Handelsblatt about the challenges which come along as a result of the shift in energy mix towards renewables, here focusing on Texas. Solar and wind power are not available 24/7 and the demand is not necessarily located close to supply. Coupled with isolated and partially outdated power grids, power outages become more and more a normal phenomenon, even in economical highly developed countries and areas. At DEUTZ AG, we are committed to contribute towards achieving CO2-neutrality by 2050. Whilst we thrive to achieve this important goal, we continue to work to ensure that the world keeps moving. And that is one of the reasons why we are entering into new markets and new business models. Last month we signed a contract to purchase 100% of the shares in Blue Star Power Systems, Inc., a company producing state-of-the-art power generators. These power generators act as backup in the event of outages as such happening in Texas. Backups for hospitals, data centers, supermarkets, industrial facilities and many other parts of the critical infrastructure. And that is just the beginning. We will further buy and build a strong and global Deutz energy business, which will also allow us to bring CO2-neutral technologies into the market, using our H2 ICE or our engines to be powered with bio or synthetic fuels. #deutz #weensuretheworldkeepsmoving #bluestarpowersystems

Another one bites the dust of dry & slow European cleantech & industrial policies. Truly sorry for SOLARWATT Germany for now! When the last plant is closed down, we will learn that importing basically everything doesn't drive a sustainable energy transition & resilient future for our children. There is an underlying market dynamic in the solar industry in Germany (and Europe) that hasn‘t changed a bit. It has fueled the growth in the last years - and will continue to do so. Never mind current volume hick ups across the industry. Thanks to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung for shedding some light on the political and regulatory context in today‘s edition. #greentec #kontronsolar

Krannich Solar India
This year, Krannich Solar was once again present at Intersolar in Munich, the world's leading PV industry trade fair. The atmosphere was optimistic, better than some had expected. "There were many visitors that attended the trade event and our booth," summarizes Jan Brunner, CSO of Krannich Solar. "We had many good conversations and are looking forward to the second half of 2024 with great anticipation." While some PV markets are under pressure, many market participants still have full inventories, development is stagnating in some areas, and protectionist measures are being discussed in politics. However, through all this, Krannich remains a stable and experienced partner. "It's important to us that our customers are well-positioned in this environment and can rely on us. Together, we are stronger. This is expressed by our trade fair motto 'Better. Together.'," says Jan Brunner. After nearly 30 years in the industry and over 30 branch openings worldwide, the wholesaler has a lot of experience and stands on solid ground. “Because of this, even our largest customers and manufacturers were quite optimistic." "Harvesting" the excess energy produced from #Renewables, especially on windy and sunny days throughout the period from April to October is going to be a challenge. Kudos to Julien Jomaux for putting these charts together! While as we see from #California, #Batteries can squeeze out #NaturalGas partially from the morning and evening ramps, we might still have more energy that we can store in #batteries or consume due to demand side response, thats were #PowertoGas comes into play, eventually we might have the chance to #squeeze out fossil natural gas in the long run and replace it by Bio- and Synthetic Methane. #Germany has a massive potential, since we operate one of the largest fleets of #Biogas plants in the world, which can serve a multitude of value streams, starting from Biogas-/ Biomethane production, producing power from Biogas and Biomethane, due to the fact, that #Biomass stripps biogenic CO2 from the air, they can actively help to create negative emissions. Taking the excess #CO2 generated in the #fermentation process and either use it directly to squeeze out fossil derived CO2 from the beverage or food industry is one way, the other way is to use it produce synthetic #Methane. Using #H2 produced via electrolysis from excess Renewable power and utilizing the gas grid as the vector to transport large amounts of energy and feedstock across large distances should be th way forward IMHO. Building and developing more robust technologies, i.e. electrolysers or applications that directly turn sunlight into storable molecules such as #H2 or #CH4 will be the task for the coming years. #Biogas #Biomethane #Biogastopower #SyntheticMethane #SNG #RNG #eNG #CO2 #TerraformIndustries #Electrochaea #Reverion #Qpower #Turn2X

🕯 Keeping the lights on in small- and medium-sized cities in Germany is becoming a challenge due to the fast-growing demand for electricity. 💡 Oranienburg, a typical Mittelstadt with 50,000 inhabitants, is struggling to keep up with the demand due to strong economic growth and increased installation of decentral energy assets like heat pumps. Mayor Alexander Laesicke explains that while there is still electricity available, the municipal utilities can no longer approve any new registrations or increases in the capacity of house connections to keep the electricity grid stable. This affects not only heat pumps and charging infrastructure for electric cars but also new commercial and industrial areas that cannot be connected to the grid at the moment. E.ON's E.DIS is now working on a solution for the capacity shortage together with the Stadtwerke Oranienburg GmbH. The challenges in turning a city green are real and will be solved by close cooperation of all parties. There are 624 such "Mittelstädte" in Germany, and it remains to be seen how they will cope with increasing pressure on energy infrastructure. #Oranienburg #ElectricityDemand #InfrastructureChallenge Sebastian Lührs Moritz Frühbauer Jan-Jakob Bergmann Markus Pöhlmann Jan Schmidtberg

The transformation of our energy system is a good example of how a number of challenges can no longer be solved at the national level alone. The energy transition calls for cross-border cooperation with European and global partners. We see this every day when working on our projects. It takes instruments like the European Green Deal and the EU taxonomy to set the right course for a climate-neutral future. And it takes the European even global financial market to finance the modernization of the energy system. After all, the green transformation can only succeed with sufficient national, European and international capital. In short, we can only rise to the challenges of our time together in Europe. Let us therefore exercise our right to vote in the European elections on 9 June. There is a great deal at stake: The European Union and the euro are cornerstones of our security and our economic success and prosperity. Above all else, however, for all its differences, the EU is also a community of shared values. And a strong economy needs values such as diversity, openness and tolerance. At EnBW, we have therefore joined forces with various German companies in the alliance #WeStandforValues to make it clear why it is important to vote in the #EUelections and stand up for European values. #VoteForEurope #useyourvote #GreenDeal #EnergyTransition

Energy markets are a labyrinth and choice can disempower as well as empower customers. Consumer confidence matters to suppliers, and to all energy consumers, to increase engagement and participation in DER as well as build momentum for the energy transition. How can we empower consumers rather than confuse them? In this three-part Energy Infrastructure Executive Briefing Series, developed by the EY Net Zero Centre, we explore three critical levers for Australia to pull to drive the net zero transition and create new value for consumers, businesses and our nation.
