Yesterday, I attended the insightful webinar "The 3 A's of Coaching: Adjectives, Adverbs, and Absolutes". It was a powerful reminder of the idea that "words create worlds" (not my words, but Daniel Olexa, MCC, CIHt's) and how, as coaches, we can reach new levels of awareness by focusing on and exploring how clients qualify their reality and goals. One key takeaway for me was the immense power that words have. By paying attention to the qualifiers our clients use, we can open doors to deeper exploration. It struck me how sometimes clients can feel blocked when directly asked about their goals or issues. However, by probing into the why and what for behind the adjectives, adverbs, and absolutes they use, we can bypass their defenses and help them access insights they might not have reached otherwise. This webinar resonated with me not only as a coach but also as a translator. The power of words has always fascinated me, and this session reinforced how crucial language is in our work! A big thank you to Daniel Olexa, MCC, CIHt, Heike Aiello and ICF Germany Charter Chapter e.V. for organizing and delivering such a valuable session. It was truly enlightening and it felt very short! (Now I am going to count how many qualifiers I have just used 😂 )

Adaptability or resilience? Last summer I read Peter Wohlleben’s The Hidden Life of Trees. The old-growth forests he describes have not evolved to be highly adaptable. Instead, they have a different strategy for survival: resilience through collaboration and interconnection. The more I read about Wohlleben’s ancient beech forests, the more I started to wonder about a bias we sometimes bring in agile coaching. Is faster always better? What other strategies for survival might we be missing?

A NEW PERSPECTIVE FOR THRIVING IN A DISRUPTED WORLD I’m very happy to announce the publication of our new book: THE COSMIC LENS - Seven Steps to Handling Uncertainty with Grace and Co-creating a Livable 21st Century Coauthored with Dr. Birgit Viertlböck from Germany. She’s a trauma expert and as such she totally compliments my skill set, which is environmental and cosmological. Also, we feel there is much value in living the cocreative dance between masculine and feminine, through our cooperation. The result is a unique book and a brand new approach. Our objective has been to write from the questions: - What do the Planet and Life need now? - How can people with (eco-) anxiety best be healed and empowered? - How can we thrive in an uncertain, rapidly changing, even rupturing reality? - Why and how we need to grow before we "do" more things? We chose the metaphor of a lens to help people grasp an expanded, more global systems perspective. Next, we introduce the principles that basically rule the cosmos. It’s very interesting to see that these are ecological AND mystical. From there, we offer actionable steps. The book is available on Amazon at super low cost. This is not about making a profit. 💫 Why the Inner Development Goals? ✨ 🙏🏻I have embraced the Inner Development Goals as a guiding star, an Inner Development sherpa: a new lens to bring into my daily life, and that has reflected in my #acting and in the impact I want to make in the world. 🧭 It is mirrored in my #relationships, in the way I make choices and in my #communication, choosing Non-Violent Communication. It has helped me through some very tough times last year, in the path to rebranding with Innerlead and most of all, it has given my personal practice an #innercompass. 🙌🏼 I can probably say that I embody the IDGs in a way that has helped me be #authentic in the world, it has helped me shed all the shells that I carried to protect myself before I achieved high levels of #SelfAwareness, and through daily practice, I can be be true to my deepest #values, and very #conscious in my decision-making. And it is a very simple practice that has helped me along the way: the moment I feel lost, or when I need to take a complex decision, I open my IDG Skill Finders and ask: "What IDG do I want to live by at this precise instant?" 🧘🏽‍♀️And this past year the skills I have chosen to practice the most have been #Presence, through meditative practices from which creativity emanates, and #Perseverance, to master skills that have been difficult to me. From the works of Meister Eckhart and Martin Heidegger. We begin to understand the evolution of concepts we see today. The differenece between "meditative contemplation" versus "calculative thinking". When we engage in the former (infrequently), we are open to mystery and see ourselves as part of the larger whole. When we are actively pursuing the latter (more than we should), we are projecting our wants and needs on to the world to figure things out. For me, this is seeing versus solving. Once we pick a desired endpoint, the tunnel vision begins and we literally stop seeing the world around us because we are so focused on the "goal". We are no longer a part of the whole because we are using the world to get what we want/need. This is self-actualizaton versus self-transcendence in practice. It is "me" not "we". Heidegger said the gelassenheit had two main attributes that sounds pretty good to me: - releasement (both "from" and "to") - openness to mystery Leading requires gelassenheit. It requires an openness to our world because truly leading is simply enabling what is trying to happen...to happen. To bring forth into the world that which benefits the world. How do you maintain your resilience? One of my go to activities is yoga 🧘‍♀️ Why do I love yoga? Because whilst I do yoga, I can only concentrate on the present moment as each pose requires presence with the breath and presence with the muscles needed to execute it. When I am not fully present: ❌ I lose my balance ❌ I hurt myself ❌ I get frustrated ❌ It feels harder than it needs to... Whilst I am fully present: ✅ I can avoid falling over ✅ I can avoid hurting myself ✅ I can avoid overwhelm ✅ I can get the benefits of doing the pose ✅ I can get the benefits from regulating my nervous system ✅ My brain can get a rest ✅ My body can get the intended workout ✅ I feel energised, nurtured and peaceful... What is there not to love? I also get: 💪more flexible 💪more toned 💪more empowered 💪more mindful 💪more present 💪more patient 💪more resilient... So what are you waiting for? ❗You haven't got time? ↪ all it takes is 10 minutes a day to get started (baby steps will keep you focused and motivated) ❗You have too much else to do! ↪ 10 minutes of yoga will give you more energy to do everything else. ❗ I won't keep it up! ↪ that's why 10 minutes a day is doable. ❗ I am not flexible enough! ↪ You will become more flexible with everyday that you practise. ... ❓How do you maintain your resilience? ❓Want more energy in your life? ❓Want some help make a plan that you can stick to? ps: doesn't have to be yoga, it can be any of your go to activities. First Impressions are Crucial. But What About Last Impressions? Making a memorable first impression is obviously important. But focusing solely on that opening moment means missing a key piece of the puzzle. The reality is, the impression you leave at the end matters just as much, if not more. Think about the last seminar, coaching session, or keynote that really stuck with you. Was it the flashy opening that hooked you? Or Was it the resonant closing that cemented the message? Chances are, it was how that speaker or facilitator completed the experience that solidified the transformation in your mind. The most masterful coaches and speakers understand that the last impression IS the lasting impression. It's the final moments that determine whether your insights take root or get relegated to the viewer's "nice, but forgettable" bin. Mediocre closings lead to mediocre results. Second in a series of six FAQ videos about LinkedIn. This week's FAQ video: How Many Connections Should I Have on LinkedIn? The number of connections you should have on LinkedIn depends on your reasons for using LinkedIn and on your overall personality, such as if you’re more of an introvert or an extravert. Let’s start with the personality part. To make a generalization, introverts often prefer to have a smaller number of friends than do extraverts. They like getting to know their friends on a deeper level than extraverts do, who in turn prefer to have a larger number of friends. So, on LinkedIn if you’re an introvert, you may be fine with a few hundred connections. An extravert would likely have at least 500 connections or more. Introverts typically want to have talked with a potential connection by phone or Zoom before accepting a connection invite. Extraverts can be OK with accepting an invite and not have communicated with person who invited them. If you are on LinkedIn to help you land a job or if you are using it as a business owner to market yourself and the services and products you provide, it’s good to have 500 connections or more if possible. When you have 500 or more connections, more people will ask you to connect with them, you’re likely to have more people reacting to your posts, and you will get more robust search results if you are looking to expand your network. Or, if you are on LinkedIn primarily to help have a professional presence and don’t intend to be all that active on LinkedIn, having a few hundred connections or possibly less should be plenty. #linkedinconnections #linkedintips

I had the chance to interview Daniel Goleman during our Leadership Development Community of Practice event. Daniel talked about his new book "Optimal" and how to best design and deliver an emotional intelligence (EQ) training program. He pointed to five key ingredients: 1/ Highly motivated participants. Participant motivation is something leadership development should shape and influence. He uses an example of a program that employed email nudges to increase and extend engagement. Short, concise nudges triggered PRACTICE. 2/ 10+ hours of training, spaced out over time, with periodic booster sessions. Spreading training hours over longer periods of time helps make learning stick. Five 2-hour sessions is more effective than one 10-hour session. 3/ Ongoing practice and reinforcement. EQ is a behavioral skill (like golf). So, PRACTICE is the key to mastery. The more you get your participants to practice high EQ behaviors, the more likely it is that they’ll apply the EQ framework one, three, and even ten years later. 4/ Social support. For executives and high-level leaders, Daniel recommends 1-on-1 coaching. As you scale, he recommends cohort-based training (i.e., group coaching). Regular coaching is also a great way to space training hours out over time (see bullet 2). 5/ Active support from key organizational leaders. The last ingredient is active engagement, support, and modeling by senior leaders. Win their buy-in early and involve them aggressively! *** You don’t need all five ingredients to build a successful training program. But the more you have, the better your odds will be. To get started, pick just one and really lean into it. #leadershipdevelopment P.S. these ingredients can pretty easily be applied to any training program, not just EQ.
