We are now in the seventh year of delivering our sustainability strategy, Appetite for a Better World, using time-bound commitments to track and drive progress. In 2023, we made good progress against our targets for nutrition, sourcing and operations, nearly all of which are on track or ahead of target. Highlights include the fact that in 2023, 99.5% of our fish and seafood was Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) or Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certified, and 93.9% of net sales were from healthier meal choices, underpinning our achievement of a 100% score for Health and Nutrition in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the fifth year in a row. The hospitality industry in Austria is undergoing a significant transformation with recent negotiations around a substantial wage increases and labor agreements for workers in hotels and gastronomy. As of May, employees are set to receive a remarkable 6% salary hike, with an additional 2% scheduled for November. I remember in the 1990’s while studying hotel and catering management going on a ‘behind the scenes’ tour of TGI Fridays in Covent Garden. I was in awe of their cocktail trading programme and food production protocols, their attention to detail and how the waiting on and bar staff were so highly trained. It was a brand that you associated with great food, fun and fabulous service - the ingredients for success… But… Sadly yesterday’s experience was overcooked potato skins. Chicken so char-grilled it was inedible and charging £16 for cocktails and claiming it’s buy one get one free! No wonder the place was nearly empty! I can’t hide my disappointment at a brand I so admired,summed up when a 16 year old won’t eat their burger! However it was a great lesson for him to learn as a trainee chef on how food not cooked well can make you feel so disappointed. What happened to the standards and protocols? What happened to the incredible customer service and highly trained bar staff? I’m such a huge fan and advocate of #hospitality but these are the issues when hospitality owners wonder why nobody is returning or they haven’t got the bookings. I don’t come on here to dash anyone’s reputation or brand, but sometimes brands / businesses need a nudge and a reminder to go back and revisit those training standards and protocols… I will be a wedding guest at my own venue in a few weeks time and will be eagerly looking at my experience from a customer perspective to see where my business can improve, after all feedback is the breakfast of champions … #diningexperience #entrepreneurlife #hospitality #standards #feedback

🖥 Over the past week, I have been super busy meeting new people, connecting on virtual meets with coffee, and having discovery calls on a variety of topics, systems, and innovations 💡 I will admit that, whilst I did take time out in previous roles to discover what is going on in the world of hospitality, I now feel [with the conversations that I have had recently] that I didn’t do enough of it 🌎 In one of those meetings, I met with Kilian Ulm, Chief Business Officer at Axon Vibe, who walked me through the work they do with leading global public transport agencies and how, by using the agencies’ official travel apps and their user reach, they can not only track and predict user travel patterns but also reward those users with offers at hospitality venues on their upcoming routes, [predicted through AI] 🥨 He talked me through the work they have been doing with the Deutsche Bahn Zugportal app, which has recently evolved into the DB Regio Guide app. Axon Vibe power the customer loyalty and satisfaction feature, which rewards frequent travellers with exclusive benefits, including digital vouchers for discounted pretzels and/or complimentary drinks from Brezelbäckerei Ditsch GmbH. The results they drive are compelling, with conversation rates upto 35% 🥇 Uniqueness and consistency are key attributes for brands but, just as important, is being competitive – having the ability and attitude to push boundaries, to innovate, to be on the front foot and ahead of the curve [and the competition]. I think this technology is really clever, super interesting as a footfall driver, and has competitor advantage written all over it 🔋 Axon Vibe powers local store marketing campaigns in the London Bus app, and they are currently offering trials for businesses and/or brands that are front-runners, competitive, and up for it 📹 The clip below shows peak time travel in a part of London by any mode; walking, cycling, car and not just public transport.
