Most importantly, it gives a broader picture of the challenges and opportunities faced by all Blue Economy sectors in the EU, as well as the main drivers to attain its potential, based on the most recent available data. ⚓️🌊The report delves into the progress in the energy transition for climate change, and technological challenges and goals. This is a super interesting way of starting at the upcoming debate on the next multiannual financial framework. While I think that the public goods selected are clearly not exclusive and some of the most essential ones have not been selected, namely those ensuring we primarily prevent climate change and biodiversity loss but also mitigate their impact as well as ensure public support also via strengthening European identity (think Erasmus for instance as a clear European public good).

Yesterday, together with World Resources Institute and Germanwatch e.V., we convened civil society experts on Loss and Damage Finance to collaboratively construct a timeline of the needed milestones to unlock Loss and Damage finance flows at scale. Then we discussed what strategies and narratives are needed to achieve these milestones in a timely manner. We will produce an output paper that we hope will support decision makers in taking the required steps to advance Loss and Damage finance. In the midst of the never-ending policy cycle on migration, it's refreshing to read publications tackling the bigger picture. This working paper traces the development of EU law and policy on irregular migration since the late 1990s. It also suggests that the focus on return did not develop out of thin air with the New Pact - rather has been, since the beginning, a key EU response in dealing with the presence of irregular migrants in the EU. Congrats Axel Voss for being re-elected as MEP for the 2024-29 legislative term. You can be very proud of your achievements over the past years as you have heavily shaped the EU's #digital #policy and restlessly pushed for #major #reforms. Even though genuine changes are only arriving in baby steps, one can rightful say that without parliamentarians like yourself, our Union would already be a goner. On top of that, you are one of the few leading decision-makers in the European Parliament that is also a very nice human-being and an incredible supportive boss. One person that, at an event, will always prefer to talk with the nice security or service personnel over small talks with some famous policy figure. One person, who wants only the best for his team. As always, his ambitions are high and his to-do-list is already very long. The initiatives, where I will try to support him, can be summarised under the following five items: ➡ Making sure that the #AIAct is - despite all its legal flaws - implemented in the right way. We will try to support the creation of an effective #AI #governance ecosystem that allows the development and deployment of trustworthy AI. This means in particular that we will scrutinise each and every step of the AI Office. #watchdog ➡ Waiting for the 'Alternative Impact Assessment' of the European Parliamentary Research Service on the #AILD. In case our colleagues are identifying a legal gap in the #liability framework of the EU, we will start working on our draft report in the legal committee. ➡ Continuing to work on the #GDPR enforcement proposal and assess what else can be done to improve the effectiveness of #dataprotection rules, while relieving the regulatory burden for #SMEs and #organisations. ➡ Pushing for stronger centralisation when it comes to #digital #governance, for instance by discussion the creation of a 'digital enforcement agency' or the establishment of an EU version of the Digital Regulation Cooperation Forum (DRCF). ➡ Waiting for the European Commission to release their study as well as their legislative proposal that responds to our 2022 INL on Third-Party #Litigation #Funding so that we can finally establish minimum safeguards that protect #claimants and #consumers from a few greedy players.

Clubbing culture can be a driver of economic development and cultural growth for a city as Berlin, where 50% of repeater tourists come back to the city for the vibrant nightlife. From today in Berlin with the partners of the URBACT network Cities After Dark for deep-diving into the local policies to support music venues and clubs, with a focus on the models of environmental and economic sustainability of venues which are contributing to urban regeneration and city vibrancy. Organized in collaboration with VibeLab, the study visit is a great opportunity for taking inspiration from the experience of night activists and cultural actors which are making night-time activities a decisive element of the Berlin's cultural offer. Let’s see if my network is interested in some more personal posts! 👀 I just did a very short radio interview for a friend working at a radio station back home. 🎙️ It was quite interesting. And yes, it was quite obviously my very first public interview ever. There was one question that took me by surprise: "Who is a lobbyist?" 🤔 So simple, yet so difficult to explain in 1-2 sentences. After what can only be described as nervous rambling about my daily life, followed by explaining that I am neither a lawyer nor a PR person, I realised that I'm so accustomed to my 'bubble' that I struggled to answer the question in a simple manner for an 'outsider' or the general public. 😅 I trust that many people in my network can come up with much better and more concise answers. 💡 Please share your answers in the comments below so I can use them in the future! 😄

Sharing the recent post published by Climate-KIC, the main European agency supporting Cities and Regions in terms of climate innovation, alluding to the range of 16 projects, which includes Maia’s Sobrotherhood, which aims to implement the principles of the New European Bauhaus (NEB)”, with strong emphasis on its third pillar, “Inclusion”, where the participation of the community assumes particular relevance! In our specific case, schools and elders from the Sobreiro Neighborhood! Maia thus continues its active participation in NEB through the implementation of innovative projects such as Sobrotherhood or Eyes Hearts Hands 👁❤️🖐 in its territory, always keeping in mind the three NEB values ​​defined as fundamental principles: Sustainability (where climate objectives must be allocated), Aesthetics (quality of public space) and Inclusion (valuing public participation!). #neweuropeanbauhaus #Maia #sustainableurbandevelopment #innovation #climatechange

Good news: 🐳 🐋 🦈 🐠 🐙 🦑 European Parliament consents by an overwhelming majority for the EU to ratify the #HighSeasTreaty. This is an important step forward for EU ratification; ifaw urges the EU Council to conclude the process as quickly as possible and all EU Member States to complete the ratification process domestically. The 27 EU Member States represent nearly half the remaining 56 ratifications needed for the treaty to enter into force. If EU Member States act quickly, they can be a driving force to conserve over half the Earth’s surface. Right now, only 1% of the High Seas are protected. The rest remains a mostly lawless space where millions of marine species have no protection. Yet oceans are the largest habitat on Earth, producing half the Earth’s oxygen, and absorbing about 30% of the carbon dioxide created. With this treaty, we have a formidable opportunity to help protect the planet and combat climate change. Governments around the world have committed to protecting 30% of our ocean by 2030, so we have no time to lose.   This is one of the most significant treaties of our times. While this decision by the European Parliament is an important milestone, EU Member States and other governments around the world need to take the plunge to make this a reality. #RaceForRatification High Seas Alliance
