SAP faces turning point as Hasso Plattner steps down: Departure of CEO Hasso Plattner marks the end of the founding era at SAP, and adds further complexities for the German software multinational as it faces ongoing restructuring efforts, among many other challenges to solve. It’s difficult to imagine SAP without Hasso Plattner, who’s been there from the beginning and has significantly shaped the fortunes of Europe’s largest software manufacturer for more than five decades as founder, board of directors member, and, most recently, as chairman of the supervisory board. Now at 80, Plattner is giving up his post at the head of the supervisory board and leaving the SAP stage. In April 1972 five former IBM employees founded Systemanalyse und Programmentwicklung GbR, which later became SAP, in Weinheim. From the very beginning, the key design principle at SAP has been the integration of individual components where users could perform tasks. In the first few years, they programmed modules for financial accounting, purchasing, inventory management, order receipt, material planning, and invoicing and auditing. The concept of an integrated system in combination with increasingly powerful computer architectures from IBM and Siemens meant a revolution in the early days. It was the starting point of an unparalleled success story that has remained closely linked over the decades with the original founders, mostly Dietmar Hopp and Hasso Plattner. While IT startups today are inflated by investors with billions of dollars and under enormous pressure, things were more leisurely at SAP in the beginning. “We were very lucky and in the right place at the right time,” Hopp said in a 2015 interview with NWZ. “Our startup phase lasted about 10 to 15 years.” After the IPO in 1988, Hopp and Plattner shared power at SAP by mutual agreement. Hopp took over the position of CEO until 1998 and Plattner took care of technology and development, as well as SAP’s important entry into the US market. “The period between 1988 and 1992 was wonderful,” Plattner said in an interview with the Smithsonian Awards Program’s Oral History Project. “I spent every day developing software. ❓ How to Handle FI Cutover Data in an SAP System? 🤔 For finance professionals, the first-time implementation of an SAP system can present significant challenges, especially when it comes to data migration. 💡 Here are some practical tips that have worked well in my experience: 😎 Create Separate Interim GL Accounts: Use distinct number ranges or groups for GL, AR, AP, FA, and Inventory data loads. This approach ensures that the total of all these accounts results in a zero balance, facilitating successful data cutover activities and providing control points for each type of upload. 🈷Standard Cost Inventory : ✔ Perform a cost run before the shutdown period in the production system (without releasing it) for standard cost inventory types. Verify the results with stakeholders, as this will affect the rate for standard cost inventory items in the system. If not managed properly, inventory values can become inaccurate. ✔ Quantities will be uploaded, and the inventory value will be calculated by the system. ✔ Adjust any value differences between the legacy system and SAP through MR22. ⛏ Moving Price Inventory: For these items, both quantity and value should be loaded, allowing the system to calculate the Moving Average Price (MAP). 📒 GL Validation: Before cutover, validate which accounts will be uploaded as balances and which will be on an open line item basis. 💲 AR/AP Validation: Confirm with stakeholders whether balances or open items will be uploaded and proceed accordingly. 🎰 Fixed Assets: ✔ Define the cutover date. ✔ If it's at the end of the fiscal year, upload the acquisition cost and accumulated depreciation. If it's mid-year, upload the accumulated depreciation until the fiscal year-end and the current year's depreciation. Please Feel free to add comments!

Today I had the chance to talk about the different options of building extensions on #SAPBTP at the #CustomerSuccessDays in Newtown Square. The concept of Side-by-side extensions is great but it comes with a lot of decisions you need to take: - Extension or Standard - On Stack or BTP - Low Code or Pro Code - Freestyle UI5 or Fiori Elements - CAP or RAP - ABAP, Cloud Foundry or Kyma - HANA Cloud or PostgreSQL - … I personally like the flexibility, because it means that we can find a solution that perfectly fits the customer‘s situation, strategy and use case.
