„I've known Clemens since I was a student, and our paths have crossed many times in the working world. I have rarely met someone who inspires other people and founders in such a way and at the same time promotes one of the most important issues of our generation, plastic pollution, and thus slowly and step by step leads to a rethinking in business, It is not everyday that you meet people like Clemens, who is able to combine business and open-minded intellectual discussions, I really appreciate this and looking forward to our next mutual mission!“

Companies' climate targets often fail to adequately consider the time value of carbon, focusing more on long-term net-zero pledges rather than immediate actions. This approach overlooks the critical importance of early emissions reductions, which are significantly more valuable due to the prolonged atmospheric presence of CO2. Immediate action is essential for a meaningful impact on climate change.

This is a great video and a great channel if you want to stay informed on climate issues and what you can do to solve them! I am sharing this video because companies spend millions on Merch each year that all contributes to labour abuse and environmental degradation. In this video they mention an American company tackling this issue called TS Designs ( https://lnkd.in/gx_RyRNc). If you are looking for merch for your company I highly recommend looking into more sustainable options like them. https://lnkd.in/gRxar37G

📣 Is your Head of Marketing well-equipped to answer a sustainability-related interview question without getting called out for greenwashing? 💸 Does your #DirectorofFinance know what carbon pricing is? 🍽️ Can your #HeadofFood explain the pros and cons of different food-related ESG certifications? 🛒 Does your #HeadofPurchasing know which packaging types are ACTUALLY recyclable or compostable in your respective locations? You’ve probably heard folks say "Every role needs to be a sustainability role", and you might even ideologically agree. ...But how's that practical in an organisation of already seriously busy stakeholders? 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰: 👏Pop your teams on a 1.5 hour ESG leadership course and equip them with an understanding of all the key concepts and terms needed to apply their respective areas of expertise to your overall ESG effort.👏 Will they be ESG experts by the end? 🌱 No - this is the start of a journey 🌱 Will they feel confident engaging on ESG issues and how they apply to their industry areas? 🌾 YES! 🌾 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐥𝐥 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭: - Instant up-skilling for key stakeholders in arguably the biggest emerging issues impacting our industry. - If you have a Sustainability Manager, your whole team will be well-equipped to work with them so they can drive forward impact effectively. - If you don’t have a Sustainability Manager, this is the best way to start integrating sustainability into everyone else’s roles. 𝐘𝐨𝐮'𝐥𝐥 𝐆𝐞𝐭: 👉 1.5hours teaching time (in person or online) 👉 Unlimited Q&A time - the team are welcome to ask as many questions as they need 👉 Lifetime access to a live, regularly updated ESG Leadership Cribsheet document to refer to whenever they need. People think they want the latest fashion trends. What they really need is sustainability. Here's the problem: - When you buy fast fashion, it's a strain on the planet. Tons of textile waste end up in landfills. - When you support fast fashion brands, you contribute to unsustainable practices that harm our environment. - Fast fashion's appeal is fleeting, leaving our earth burdened for centuries to come. Other than the fleeting joy of a new purchase (which does feel nice; it does bring temporary joy), don’t think you’re making a harmless choice. Fashion’s fast pace is wasteful. Big wardrobes feel good but don't necessarily mean they're responsible or sustainable. Sustainability happens when the right brands make the right decisions about the environment... ...and then you support them. So if you're seeking anything, it should be supporting brands that care about our future. That's where real impactful change exists for our planet. Sounds a little less trendy? It is. But watch that you're not buying into the hype: Sustainability > Fast Fashion, every time. Meet Patagonia and LABFRESH: two brands that are showing us how fashion can be both trendy and environmentally friendly. They're proving that great style doesn’t have to come at the planet’s expense. Here’s to making more informed, meaningful choices in what we wear! https://lnkd.in/eGiSm_wc

⛔️𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘁⛔️ Lately I am dreaming about doing a TEDx talk. I was already in contact with a community team member here in Austria. Catherine told me they are super picky on sustainability talks. Too many have already covered the topic and rarely there's a fresh perspective, a real eyeopener. She made me thinking. True, too many platitudes. In the world of sustainability & marketing we often hear Safe the planet! To me always something feels off. And I get this uncomfortable feeling, like someone is not saying the truth. A foul slogan. Because it doesn't even sum up correctly what is going on. We need to accept that this #climate #crisis is human made and more than the planet, WE are in a state of emergency. The planet has, does and will exist without us I say this twice 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀, 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘂𝘀 We need to #act, be #innovative and #cooperate for OUR sake. To safe all the wonderful things we have created as a species: Music, Architecture, Language, Food, Football, Dancing, Rome.... The list is endless. So. I still haven't found the right angle for my TedTalk to express our and my journey with Carbony. But I definately know we are not removing CO₂ from the atmosphere to safe the planet. But if you still need a slogan to get active, join us and change for the better, it should be: 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀! 🤔💭You got a better idea? What is an inspiring perspective on climate & sustainability?? Tell me in the comments _________ Hi!👋 I am Matthias. Follow me for more insights on startup life and building an impact company. Like this? Comment. Different opinion? What is it?

How's your #PlasticDetox Social Media Challenge going? Share your journey in the comments below! We'd love to hear from you! Here's our tip #5 in case you need some inspiration: It's time to say goodbye to single-use plastics and hello to sustainable alternatives! Check out these simple swaps you can make in your daily life: Say no to plastic straws and opt for reusable bamboo, stainless steel, or glass straws instead. Or consider if you desperately need a straw in the first place! Sipping the drink tastes exactly the same, but saves a considerable amount of resources. Skip the plastic bags at the grocery store and bring along your own reusable cloth or paper bag. Stay hydrated on the go, with a reusable stainless steel or glass water bottle, reducing problems caused by the existing over-dependence on plastic bottles. Choose eco-friendly bamboo or wooden cutlery over plastic utensils for your meals. Store leftovers in glass or stainless steel containers instead of in plastic food containers. Wrap your food in beeswax wraps, or use silicone food covers instead of plastic wrap. Make the switch to bamboo toothbrushes, or ones with compostable handles, to cut down on plastic waste. Carry your produce in reusable mesh, or cotton, bags rather than in single-use plastic ones. Look for toiletries packaged in recyclable or biodegradable materials, or opt for solid bar versions, to eliminate plastic packaging. Together, let's make conscious choices to reduce our plastic footprint and create a cleaner, greener world for future generations! #EarthDay #WorldCleanupDay #LetsDoItWorld #PlanetvsPlastics #WasteFreeWorld

How do we move from talk to action when it comes to nature investments? TTI members from all over the world are kickstarting the Top Tier Impact working group on nature & biodiversity. Together, we will gather online every 2 months and tackle 3 big topics: ✊ Stakeholders: who are all the parties needed to bring nature onto corporate balance sheets and grow it as an asset class? 📝 Investment frameworks & impact measurement: what’s the one measure and “CO2 emissions” equivalent when it comes to nature & biodiversity? What frameworks can scale here? 💸 Policy development & market creation: what are the incentives to put in place? What markets are ready to be kickstarted, and how? Together, we will also present the result of these working group discussions in Davos during WEF 2025. Are you playing a role in nature & biodiversity? Would you like to get involved in this? Let us know here: https://lnkd.in/gR_uVMJ6 Onwards! 🌳

💥 The 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 was a blast. Great to see how you give Circular Startups a home in Berlin, Florian Fehr, Marlen Heske & the team of NEEW Ventures! 💬 The evening was too short to talk to everyone I wanted to. Obviously, Alexander Balas and I had fun. It’s impressive how Richard Georg Engström helps teams clarify their impact. I was happy to meet Christoph Rohde, Sebastian Daus and Frank Botta again. 🥇 The startups were the highlights. We saw subscriptions, (local) platforms, bio-based materials, upcycling products, and CSRD-related ideas: Velulo - kids bike subscriptions provided by local shops Repair Circle - finding local repair shops Renwave - more efficient and sustainable ship coating CiRCEE - renting & repairing cloths CLOSWAP - trade clothes with each other Coldharbour Tiles - tiles made from recycled plastic fishing nets Kiklos Oy - subscription for essential childcare products TERGY SAGAVA - generating carbon-negative biogenic fuels Yngvik - making biodegradable plastics from food waste Tina - team-building with local artisans improving your sustainability reporting Minimise - rediscover and mine electronic waste Outzip - Circular Outdoor Retailing - an operating rental system foom - converts organic waste into valuable fertiliser 🙏 Thanks for the thoughtful discussions about your business models, Eloy Padilla, Carolina Soto & Sofia Cancarini Ghisetti! I'm happy to see that the circularity startup community gets bigger and bigger! #startups #circulareconomy #sustainability

💭 How might we scale climate education & engagement across society - and do so at speed? In a way that is fair, accessible, and that leaves people with a sense of agency and ownership instead of apathy and doom? This is the question that prompted me to start SeedCulture. Without awareness and buy-in, we won’t get governments and corporates to change; and we certainly won’t decarbonise fast enough to dodge climate disaster. Doing so is hugely challenging and requires a fundamental rethink of our education system, but here are some of the things we’ve found to be effective: 💡 Make it personal: Connect climate impacts & actions to people's everyday lives and jobs. 🧠 Keep it simple: Skip the endless stats and jargon where possible; visuals and analogies are more engaging. 💪 Focus on solutions and empowering people to take action, not on the doom and gloom. 👨👩👦👦 Make it social: People are far more likely to get involved and learn from folks they relate to. Thanks again to Leo Rayman and Mark Bjornsgaard for a great conversation about the people side of org sustainability efforts. Happy to send the full recording to anyone interested.

💭Do you have an amazing idea of how to create demand for carbon dioxide removal (#CDR)? 💭 💡Applications for Stripe's Climate Fellows are now open and seeking answers on how to scale CDR to ~50-100 million tons and ~$20 billion per year by 2030. 👀 Don’t miss out on this opportunity: Stripe will cover one year's salary and other critical expenses! 💥 The inaugural Stripe Climate Fellows cohort will start in Sept 2024, looking for fellows who have ambitious but feasible proposals to grow demand for carbon removal by 2030. 🎯 They want a demonstrable near-term path to implementation for initiatives that wouldn’t happen without your intervention, and spur CDR demand that wouldn’t materialize otherwise. 🔒 Open to ideas for permanent CDR that are tech-neutral or pathway-specific, and agnostic to mechanism (i.e. regulatory or subsidy) and geography (i.e. single country, multi-country). 📣 Particular excitement is lauded at ideas that motivate an industry that currently isn’t buying CDR, demonstrate effective and replicable political outcomes, build interest from concentrated industries, advance CDR based on co-benefits, and are focussed outside of the US. ⁉️ I love to see new initiatives investing in knowledge for the industry and championing burgeoning ideas - I can’t wait to see what bright minds come together for this! 🔗 Apply by July 15th at this link - https://lnkd.in/dzEQkz63 👏 Well done to Stripe's amazing climate team who keep driving the CDR industry, including Nan Ransohoff, Jane Flegal, Hannah Bebbington, Lauren Polansky, Joanna Klitzke, Florian Maganza, Frauke Kracke, Neal Ulrich, and Belal Aftab. #climatejobs #carbonremovaljobs #climateopportunities #climatepolicy #netzero #climatechange #carbondioxideremoval

Is the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) helping companies scam their customers through false climate claims? 💁 In a world where our climate commitments are as crucial as our financial ones, understanding the role of carbon credits and emissions accounting isn't just for experts—it's essential for everyone. The SBTi, is a key player in corporate climate action and lately, they have been at the heart of a heated debate and public scrutiny… Why? They have recently discussed allowing the companies (who set their climate goals with SBTi) to offset their Scope 3 emissions using carbon credits (the first draft of the specific details should be released in July). Why the scrutiny? Critics, including the NewClimate Institute, argue that the move undermines the scientific rigor and process of the SBTi. It’s thought that this move could weaken the overall effectiveness of corporate climate commitments by enabling businesses to continue emitting at high rates while using credits to meet targets nominally. I don’t get why those “critics” go to the borderline concept of the companies not doing anything anymore after offsetting some part of Scope 3. As scope 3 includes companies indirect emissions that occur in a company’s value chain then offsetting those emissions is extremely hard and in many cases even close to impossible. If we want the companies to actually take those goals seriously they at least need to be realistic. Disruptive anyway (the whole ESG and CSR is) but still realistic. Thinking that allowing companies to offset their Scope 3 is a backlash on all the scientific efforts just seems shortsighted and spiteful. Those discussions are critical to keep the integrity of the climate efforts but we still need to think about the initial goal - becoming carbon neutral by 2050. So now - is allowing companies to invest in climate action (ultimately carbon credits) helping us achieve the goal or is it somehow disrupting us from achieving this goal? The answer is obvious - It helps and incentivises as the hurdle of achieving Scope 3 neutrality becomes achievable. But then again the offsetting needs to be allowed only: 1️⃣ In some proportion to make companies also take a look at their value chains 2️⃣ After companies have made their own efforts (insetting) towards carbon neutrality (actually reduced their emissions in-house) 3️⃣ In a transparent, regulated way that avoids greenwashing and false information What do you think about the situation and the companies using carbon credits to offset their emissions? It would be very interesting to hear your thoughts on that topic Elina Vahi #sustainability #carboncredits

"Hope is not enough: turning vision into climate action!" Many inspiring companies are doing a lot to reduce their negative impact on our planet and communities - and create huge positive momentum to create a better future. Though, we need hundred times more than that. Get inspired and spread the message. Here is Hive17 Consulting Pte Ltd monthly thoughts - and April is about #sustainability.

The latest report of the market leader in direct air capture (#dac) Climeworks shows that technical solutions are really hard to scale. and it underlines the fact that to save our climate needs we cannot neglect short-term, not so permanent nature based solutions (such as Tree.ly) in parallel. and of course first and foremost reduce our emissions! https://lnkd.in/dB9kdZ2J

A fascinating categorization of #CDR in an article exploring the "#CDR #emissions gap" in the latest edition of Nature Climate Change: > Conventional CDR on land: This includes #afforestation, in which trees are planted when previously there were none, and #reforestation, which means restoring areas where the trees have been cut down or degraded. > Novel CDR: This includes all CDR methods that are not based on #forestry and #landuse change, such as #biochar, #directaircapture (#DAC) and #bioenergy with #carboncapture and storage (BECCS). I understand this grouping, but I would argue that categorizing #CDR by Engineered Solution and #NatureBased solution might be more telling. I suspect it allows a more accurate assessment of scalability and #CarbonInvestmentEfficiency (#CIE). https://lnkd.in/gzTdydN3

I am really looking forward to chairing the textiles plenary session at the Bureau of International Recycling in Copenhagen today. In order to move towards the goal of a #circulareconomy for textiles not only do we need market support, but also sensible policies driven by good robust data and today we will be exploring how it can be possible to deliver the necessary quality raw materials at appropriate price points. #textilerecycling #sustainablefashion #usedclothing #sustainability.
