Back then, the production of lithography optics mainly based on manual labor. 📆🛠 And today? At first glance, a lot seems to have changed (right). What may look like a little out of space is actually a crucial step in the production of our highly precise lithography optics: cleanliness control. Using different types of light, we make every tiny particle visible and remove it. 🔦🧽 Because for the use of our optics in the chip exposure process, they must meet extremely high cleanliness requirements. Any little impurity could disrupt the imaging of the chip structures on the wafer – and thus render the microchip unusable in the worst case. #lithography #cleanliness #precision

Our three Strategic Business Units cover three key processes in the manufacturing of microchips. 💡Semiconductor Manufacturing Optics (SMO) develops and manufactures semiconductor manufacturing optics, including lithography optics for DUV, EUV, and High-NA-EUV technology, as well as optical modules and synchrotron optics. 💡Semiconductor Mask Solutions (SMS) enables semiconductor customers to benefit from error-free, high-quality photomasks. The production of high-precision #lenses and #mirrors is one of our key competences. But what exactly is the difference? 💡Lenses made of glass only transmit light with certain wavelengths, EUV light is not one of them. The solution: instead of lenses, curved mirrors with multilayer coating, so-called Bragg mirrors, are used for the EUV and High-NA-EUV lithography machines. The light is thus reflected at the surface and does not pass through the mirror. But that's not all: Because extreme ultraviolet light ⚡ is absorbed by all materials – including air – we have created an optical system that operates in the vacuum. 🤯 #innovation #lithography

Microchips are a key component in your smartphone, whose defect-free structures are ensured by our MeRiT® mask repair solutions. 📱🧐 In essence, it is about the photomasks, which in #lithography are comparable to a slide. The photomask contains the design of the microchips, which is printed thousands of times onto the wafer during the lithography process.
