#LongStoryShort: Major development in the private markets — BlackRock has agreed to acquire data provider Preqin in a deal worth $3.2 billion. The world’s largest money manager plans to integrate Preqin’s data feeds into its risk management offerings but also intends to maintain Preqin as a standalone solution, per Reuters. Founded 20 years ago, Preqin specialises in tracking the performance of private equity and hedge funds, covering 190,000 funds, 60,000 fund managers and 30,000 private markets investors. The data provider has grown approximately 20% per year over the past three years. BlackRock is paying 13 times Preqin’s expected 2024 revenue of $240 million, according to the Financial Times. More broadly, demand for private markets data and research providers has been on the rise recently.
