This is a fairly new conference on the international scene, and I want to draw attention to it for people who are genuinely interested in new thinking about the future of IT and healthcare… not just the usual investor driven "Where's my $billion" thinking, but how we can actually better achieve health and care at all levels from individual to community to nation. This will be only their second edition since they went international. It's in January in the Netherlands, which means it will only attract authentic pilgrims :-) not glamor seeking tourists. Having said that, I can endorse Maastricht's restaurants and the Dutch train system. Speaking of which, did you know the Dutch train system is entirely carbon neutral?? It is 100% powered by green energy. Not only that, but they have the logistics down pat. On my homebound trip back to Schiphol there was an accident ahead of us so everything was rerouted… We were told to get off at the next station and get instructions on what train to move to, and I was blown away to find that we didn't need to go queue up at some window: there were knowledgeable people standing right there on the platform telling each of us which train to get next and what track it was leaving and in how many minutes. THE INFORMATION I NEEDED, WHEN I NEEDED IT, *WHERE* I needed it. Imagine that kind of "we can do this" culture applied to healthcare. You really have to see how the Dutch do things. Tom Xhofleer . Lucien Engelen . José Coenders
Are you ready to be part of a conference where the future of healthcare truly takes shape and where you'll leave with actionable insights? Join us from January 25-30 at the ICT&health World Conference 2025, where leading thinkers and doers in healthcare come together to address and discuss the most urgent challenges across all sectors and disciplines. Don't miss the opportunity to explore the most relevant technologies and innovations that can enhance your expertise or organization and contribute to better patient care and more efficient work processes. Learn how organizations from around the world are using new care models and technologies to tackle staff shortages, alleviate workloads, and ensure seamless data sharing and system integration to provide access to care for everyone. Connect with healthcare professionals, policymakers, and companies globally, and seize valuable networking opportunities. This is the place where collaborations are forged that drive healthcare forward. Expect practical insights, concrete solutions, and best practices that you can apply directly to your own organization. Gain inspiration from leading speakers who will share their experiences and visions, helping you improve care in your area. 📅 Date: January 25-30 2025 📍 Location: MECC Maastricht, the Netherlands Register now and seize your opportunities to be part of the change! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eR5KJWCY Let's shape the future of healthcare together. #IWC25 #Healthcare #Innovation #HealthIT #Technology #Digitalhealth Ministerie van Volksgezondheid, Welzijn en Sport, Provincie Limburg, Maastricht UMC+, Philips, Zorgverzekeraars Nederland, KPN, Gartner, Zuyderland, World Health Organization and many more

Two weeks ago, I ticked off an important milestone in my 2024 academic goals: present our decision aid tool on a Post-Vasectomy Semen Analysis at the International Shared Decision Making Conference. This was my first conference on shared decision making since I started working on my PhD project. I was happy to meet other experts from around the world who are also working in integrating shared decision making in family planning to better support their patients. Some even voiced their interest in implementing a similar tool in their services (yay 🎉 !!) It was very motivating to see how my work advances efforts to help patients make informed decision about their health. PS: Added bonus was meeting many of the superstars that've cited in my thesis (Dawn Stacey, france legare, Anik Giguère, PhD, Glyn Elwyn among others ;)) #Healthcare #SharedDecisonMaking #Epidemiology

Finally summer holidays, enjoying the warmth of Denmark 😎 Thinking back - last Monday - at the International Shared Decision Making Society (ISDMS) ISDM conference in beautiful Lausanne, Switzerland #ISDM2024 I got to share the preliminary results from our project on the meaningful role of relatives when someone close to you is affected by prostate cancer. In the end our results support the work of clinicians: ⏩ How should clinicians act when relatives are present during consultations where critical illness is the focal point? In August, together with Mads Caroc C Schall Holberg and Mette Byg Josefsen and Karina Dahl Steffensen, I will be presenting the project to a Danish audience at the Danish Cancer Research Days in Odense #danskekræftforskningsdage DCCC - Danish Comprehensive Cancer Center The project is supported by: Helsefonden and Center for Fælles Beslutningstagning and Sygehus Lillebælt View conference abtract: https://lnkd.in/d4PK_wqT

One of the best parts of my job is travelling the world to discuss ideas - currently in stunning Lausanne, Switzerland to present my risk communication research at the International Shared Decision Making Society and to patients from the European Society of Cardiology. Academics are experts by education but patients are experts by experience, and you need both perspectives to achieve change in public health.
