Research misconduct (RM) and questionable research practices (QRPs) are not just academic issues—they have far-reaching impacts on researchers, the economy, and society as a whole. In our study, Dr Rowena Rodrigues and I have used a socio-economic impact assessment methodology to explore these effects and provide valuable insights. Research Ethics Governance includes not only committees and training but also an infrastructur and habit of communication and translation between interdisciplinary communities and between science and society. Individual researchers are lost when the university leads and the research institutes don’t have the same spirit. 🇪🇺 🔬🇪🇺👩💻🇪🇺🔭🇪🇺🧬🇪🇺🧪🇪🇺 Therefore, if was very commendable that the European University Association organised the panel at the ESOF in Katowice 🇵🇱. Thanks to Vinciane Gaillard for organising and moderating and thanks to the other panelist Reda Cimmperman Dorian Karatzas, Paweł Łuków, and Isabelle Wienand to discuss the extent to which new technologies might affect the basic principles of research ethics and integrity. These topics are linked to the European Commission funded projects irecs EU and RE4GREEN EU coordinated by the Deutsches Referenzzentrum für Ethik in den Biowissenschaften (DRZE) at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

At the EuroScience Open Forum, which takes place every 2️⃣ years to provide the scientific community with a platform for interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral debates with public participation, our Secretary General Dirk Lanzerath addressed the question: Are new technologies reshaping fundamental principles in research ethics and integrity? 🤔 Together with Reda Cimmperman, Dorian Karatzas, Vinciane Gaillard and Pawel Łuków, this debate began by discussing the extent to which new technologies might affect the basic principles of research integrity and in what sense challenges and opportunities may arise from innovative technological approaches for #RE and #RI. In this context, their discussion was guided by the OECD's concept of "forward-looking technology policy". We are looking back on an eventful week in Athens 🇬🇷 EUREC is proud to have participated in this year's #WCRI, which was outstandingly hosted by the local organising team, including our esteemed colleagues Costas Charitidis, Panagiotis Kavouras and Eleni Spyrakou! 👏 What a great conference with hundreds of participants - including EUREC Office members Dirk Lanzerath, Mathieu Rochambeau, Daniel Pizzolato and Lisa Häberlein as well as our former team member Tom Lindemann. It was great to see our team shine 🌟 in various forms of presentations: 🎤 Presentation on a multidimensional learning strategy to promote research integrity by our very own Daniel and 🔎 poster walks showing our current projects: irecs EU: Developing a research ethics training programme, which expands the pool of ethics reviewers with expertise in emerging technologies and educating about the risks of globalised research. BEYOND BAD APPLES: Investigating the causes of research misconduct and developing robust methods for effective training and creating and improving training materials. VERITY: Understanding the dynamics of trust relationships and strengthening public trust in scientific knowledge to promote informed decisions based on evidence. ROSiE Responsible Open Science in Europe: Openly sharing practical tools to ensure research ethics and research integrity in open science and citizen science. RE4GREEN EU: Developing an ethics and integrity framework for research and innovation activities that addresses environmental and climate challenges. PREPARED EU: Creating ethical and effective research practice in times of crises.
