The Croatian Dalmatian Coast is currently experiencing several wildfires, as seen by #MTGI1's FCI instrument here. The fires and resulting smoke are visible from #space between 08:40 - 16:50 UTC on 31 July, particularly in the Makarska region (centre). 🔥🛰️ Please note: MTG-I1's FCI imagery has been declared pre-operational after preliminary validation, however, this data is still undergoing testing and is not for operational use at this time. Info
EUMETSAT is the European operational satellite agency for monitoring weather, climate and the environment from space. We operate a system of meteorological satellites that observe the atmosphere and ocean and land surfaces – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This data is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisation's member and cooperating states in Europe, as well as other users worldwide. The service provided by EUMETSAT helps to enhance and safeguard the daily lives of European citizens. They aid meteorologists in identifying and monitoring the development of potentially dangerous weather situations and in issuing timely forecasts and warnings to emergency services and local authorities, helping to mitigate the effects of severe weather and protecting human life and property. This information is also critical to the safety of air travel, shipping and road traffic, and to the daily business of farming, construction and many other industries. Account monitored Mon-Fri 09:00-18:00 CET. For general enquiries, please contact: press@eumetsat.int For user support, please contact: ops@eumetsat.int

🌍 🛰 After we were able to recover from a complex instrument anomaly, #MTG #FCI L1c data is finally being disseminated again to selected users since last week! 🔥 Here's a an animation I created showing several #wildfires spreading in the Dalmatian coast region. 🖼 The images are a blend of the True Color composite with infrared and near-infrared data highlighting the fire hotspots. Today we celebrate 170 years of forecasting for the nation. Since our foundation in 1854, we’ve pioneered the science of meteorology and its application. We combine weather, climate science and data with expert insights to help people make decisions so they can be safe, well and prosperous. Here we highlight just some of the many moments in our history, from the first storm warning and possibly the most important forecast in our history which enabled the D-Day landings. To advancing weather and climate science and services across the world. 🌡️🌍 What's the degree of uncertainty of July 2024's global daily average temperature records? 22 and 23 July 2024 were the two hottest days on record since at least 1940 in the ERA5 dataset, according to the #CopernicusClimate Change Service (#C3S). These findings are based on the ERA5 reanalysis dataset, but how does it compare with previous records? And with other datasets? What is the degree of uncertainty of these data? We have analysed some of these recurrent questions in our latest news article: https://lnkd.in/eGPjxCDm

🤩 EUMETSAT just released their Global Weather April - June 2024 visualization, and it is mesmerizing! 📹 This popular global weather series gives a glimpse into how major weather events across the planet looked from space. This visualization displays infrared cloud imagery from the geostationary satellites of: 🛰EUMETSAT 🛰 NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration 🛰 China Meteorological Administration 🛰 Japan Meteorological Agency ☁️ Cloud imagery is superimposed over NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's 'Blue Marble Next Generation' ground maps and changes with the seasons.
