🌍 Sharing Innovations and Insights at the IDRC and WMDA Global Meeting in #CapeTown! 🌍   We are proud to actively participate and contribute to the International Donor Registry Conference (IDRC) and the WMDA Global Meeting 2024. At the international scientific conference of the cellular therapy and stem cell transplantation community we were honored to share our latest developments and learnings with the international community. Highlights from our contributions included: 🎤 Torben Boelk (Director Global Communications & Reputation) discussing “Drivers & Barriers in young people to register as a donor” 🧬Alexander Platz (CMO, DKMS Stem Cell Bank) presenting “Living Donor Derived Cryopreserved Units – A New Stem Cell Source” 📈 Jürgen Sauter (Scientific Data Analyst) sharing “HLA-haplotype based Matching Probabilities for Four Population Groups in South Africa” 🩺 Alexander Schmidt (CMO, DKMS Group) exploring “Determinants of Stem Cell Donation Probability” 🔬 Stefan Hartlieb and Isabell Schau presenting the high-quality standards of DKMS Life Science Lab.   We highly appreciated engaging with fellow experts, learning from each other, and advancing our shared mission. Together, we made a difference and moved closer to saving more lives! Every conversation and presentation brought new insights and strengthened our resolve to innovate and push the boundaries of stem cell research and donation. The connections and collaborations fostered during this conference will continue to inspire and drive us in our mission. We are committed to turning these learnings into actionable strategies to improve donor registration and transplantation outcomes globally. Here's to a future where every blood cancer patient in need finds their perfect match!   #DKMS #IDRC2024 #StemCellDonation #GlobalHealth #BoneMarrowRegistry #SaveLives

🔬 New milestone in the fight against blood cancer! 🔬 We are delighted to announce a ground-breaking #innovation in #stemcelldonation: The DKMS Stem Cell Bank in Dresden is the first facility in the world that can store surplus stem cells from donations for future transplants! Why is this important? Thanks to state-of-the-art cryopreservation, surplus stem cells can now be stored at -180 °C in liquid nitrogen. In future, more stem cells will be directly available for transplants. What does this mean for our donors and patients? 👉 Saving two lives: donors can now help not just one, but potentially two patients in need of a life-saving stem cell transplant. 👉 Rapid availability: Stored stem cells are immediately ready for use and can therefore be transplanted more quickly. The faster the stem cells are transplanted, the better the patient's chances of survival and long-term recovery. 👉 Ethics and safety: For our voluntary donors, the approach is 100 per cent ethical. We only approach those who are already donating for a specific person. With over 12 million registered donors in seven countries on five continents, DKMS is the worldwide most significant organization in the fight against blood cancer. Be a lifesaver too and register with #DKMS today. #DKMS #StemCellDonation #BloodCancer #SavingLives

Every 27 seconds, someone in the world is diagnosed with blood cancer. For many, a stem cell transplant is their only hope for a cure. But the chances of finding a matching donor are distributed unequally across the globe. Still, too few patients find their genetic twin. At #DKMS, our mission is to provide second chances at life to as many patients as possible. So far, our donors have given over 115,000 individuals a second chance at life through stem cell donations. Each donor's selfless act represents a beacon of hope for patients and their families. This World Blood Cancer Day, we honor the courageous patients fighting this battle and the incredible donors who make life-saving transplants possible. The power of human connection and the impact of kindness cannot be overstated – together, we can make a difference. 📢 Join us in spreading awareness, supporting the fight against blood cancer, and celebrating the life-changing mission of DKMS by sharing this post. Together, we can save lives and give hope to countless patients around the world. ❤️ #WorldBloodCancerDay #LifeSaver #StemCellDonation #Hope #Inspiration #Gratitude #DeleteBloodCancer #WBCD

A night filled with #inspiration, #generosity, and unforgettable moments – or as we like to call it: DKMS London Gala. 😎 We are proud to announce that the #Gala raised an incredible £1.4 million. This achievement would not have been possible without the generosity and support of our attendees, sponsors, donors, and volunteers. These funds will significantly advance our efforts to provide life-saving treatments and support to those in need. One of the most touching moments of the night was when 7 year old Patient Demi met her life-saving donor, Rob, on stage for the very first time. Their emotional reunion was a powerful reminder of the impact that DKMS has on the lives of patients and donors alike. The event featured a highly entertaining speech by James Corden and a captivating performance by the talented singer LP. Their contributions helped make the evening truly special and memorable. A special thank you goes to Katharina Harf, our Chairman, who hosted the event with passion and dedication, highlighting the importance of our mission in the fight against blood cancer. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this event and to the entire DKMS UK team for their hard work and dedication. Of course, this event also would not be as successful if we did not have the best partners by our site: Coty – We cannot thank you enough for your lifelong support. ❤️ Together, we are making a difference and giving hope to patients worldwide. Let’s continue our mission to ensure that every blood cancer patient has a second chance at life. #DKMS #DeleteBloodCancer #rebirth #NaturalHistoryMuseum

Last year, we got to witness a heartwarming meeting between patient Mandeep and his donor. The story of their meeting touched many hearts, including that of Dr.Sona Sharma, a doctor and writer. She was so moved by their story that she wanted to immortalize their experience in a #book 📚 – named ‘Mandeep meets Mandeep’. Let’s rewind a bit: Mandeep, a blood cancer #survivor, 35-year-old farmer from Punjab, India, was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid #Leukemia in 2009. After struggling for over 13 years, Mandeep was advised a stem cell transplant, unfortunately he could not find a matching donor within his family. Mandeep had to wait for over 3 years before a matching unrelated donor was identified and he underwent stem cell transplant in January 2020. Three years later in February 2023, Mandeep was able to meet his #lifesaver – Mandeep. The book “Mandeep Meets Mandeep” is based on these true events that unfold a remarkable tale of two lives, both named Mandeep, intertwined by fate and a shared HLA-type. It is also a symbol of #hope and #inspiration and a reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a profound impact. The book is available on Amazon 😉
