Let's Talk About SLA? A Service Level Agreement (SLA) is a contract that defines the level of service expected: what the service includes, what service the client will receive, and the rights and responsibilities of both the client and the service provider. SLAs emerged as part of the ITIL methodology related to IT services and have become standard practice in providing cloud services. While typical contracts contain rather general formulations, an SLA specifies all metrics and criteria in concrete metrics. For example, a client’s cloud is described as a set of specific virtual resources (vCPU, vRAM, and vDisk), allowable downtime is measured in hours, and compensation is expressed as a percentage of the payment size.
