United for Land: Our Legacy. Our Future! Droughts present a significant challenge to global sustainable development, impacting both developing and developed nations. Projections indicate that by 2050, over 75% of the global population could be affected. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reported a 29% increase in drought frequency and duration since 2000, exacerbating water stress for over 2.3 billion people. Each year on June 17th, Desertification and Drought Day raises awareness of these pressing issues. This year’s theme is “United for Land: Our Legacy. Our Future”. This global observance underscores the urgent need for sustainable land stewardship, as demonstrated by the alarming rate of land degradation - an area equivalent to four football fields of healthy land is lost every second, totaling 100 million hectares annually. CES actively contributes to advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), recognizing them as interconnected targets crucial for a sustainable future. With desertification and drought posing significant challenges, SDG 15: Life on Land is particularly important: This goal aims to protect, restore, and promote the sustainable use of ecosystems, including managing forests, combating desertification, reversing land degradation, and halting biodiversity loss. SDG 15.3 specifically focuses on ending desertification and restoring degraded land by 2030, striving for a land degradation-neutral world. CES's projects primarily focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, where desertification and drought are prevalent challenges. For example, our "Somaliland – Sustainable Land, Water, and Soil Management" project aims to improve living conditions by reducing land degradation and erosion in the Biji catchment area. CES takes pride in our ability to contribute to these vital areas, supporting more sustainable development globally and ensuring that every individual benefits from a healthier environment. #DesertificationandDroughtDay #SDG15 #CES #Braunschweig

Awaken New Dephts Today we celebrate the World Oceans Day, emphasizing the critical importance of ocean conservation for a healthy planet. This year's theme, "Awaken New Depths," underscores humanity's relationship with the ocean, highlighting our limited understanding despite its vastness. With oceans covering 71% of the Earth's surface, they are intricately linked to Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life below water. SDG14 aims to reduce ocean pollution, including nutrients and plastic waste, while addressing acidification and promoting sustainable coastal management. CES actively supports these goals, recognizing the interconnectedness of water and sustainability. As a company focused on water supply, wastewater, hydraulic engineering, and public infrastructure we are fully aware of the importance of clean, accessible water for social and economic prosperity. Our projects prioritize sustainability, acknowledging water as a fundamental right. By caring for our oceans and environment, we ensure the durability of vital water resources. At CES, we take pride in contributing to these crucial efforts. #WorldOceansDay #SDG14 #CES #Braunschweig

Water for Peace Today, on World Water Day 2024, we emphasize the benefits of water management for peace, showcasing effective strategies to enhance cooperation and prevent disputes. This United Nations event underscores the vital role of freshwater in societal, environmental, and sustainable resource management. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), it aims to ensure universal access to clean water and sanitation by 2030. Despite progress, unfortunately billions of people around the globe still lack basic services, with 1 in 3 not having safe access to drinking water and 2 in 5 without hand-washing facilities. Sustainable water management brings many benefits, from health and security to economic growth and ecosystem preservation, fostering prosperity and peace. Over 3 billion people rely on transboundary water, yet only 24 countries have cooperation agreements. This disparity could potentially cause tensions over scarce or contaminated water. As climate change has negative impact on water resources and populations grow, safeguarding water becomes significant. Collaborative efforts can ensure equitable access and promote sustainable development. We at CES are aware of the importance of water as a natural resource as well as the challenges we might face regarding water supply in some areas around the globe. We have implemented numerous water supply, wastewater, and hydraulic infrastructure projects in over 30 countries, and we take pride in making a meaningful impact through our work, addressing significant societal and environmental challenges. When it comes to water, sharing truly is caring! #WorldWaterDay #SDG6 #Waterisahumanright #CES #Braunschweig For more detailed information visit our website: https://lnkd.in/eKtWEBun
