Look Around Gordon Ramsay’s New Pizza Project in Penn Quarter

Boisterous British chef Gordon Ramsay exported his London-born Street Pizza chain to Penn Quarter on Wednesday, June 12.

The 7,100-square-foot space (501 7th Street NW) was previously tabbed as Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips. That fast-casual venture ended up going to the Wharf in 2022 and was soon joined by his flashy D.C. flagship Hell’s Kitchen, where waterfront beef Wellington sets back diners $74.

Street Pizza, Ramsay’s third D.C. opening in less than two years, specializes in 14-inch sourdough pies, wings, pastas, salads, dips, colorful cocktails, sticky toffee shakes, and more. Back home in London, Street Pizza’s seven outposts offer AYCE slices for around $25 U.S. dollars (plus a 90-minute stream of bubbles for extra). For its first stateside location, Street Pizza decided to suddenly scratch the brand’s bottomless model for reasons unknown (though the economics factor is likely in play).

An opening list of 10 whole pies ($17-$21) includes varieties like margherita, spicy ‘nduja, meatballs, fennel sausage, charred eggplant, and corn and chorizo. The “Don’t Tell Gordon” gets the name from its no-no pineapple pizza topping, and Ramsay hops on the D.C. bandwagon with a mumbo sauce-slathered “Mumbo #5” featuring fried chicken. For even more carbs, there’s crabby pasta, spaghetti carbonara, and penne pomodoro.

The expletive-dropping host of Hell’s Kitchen on Fox joins two other other bossy reality TV stars in touristy Penn Quarter. Bar Rescue’s Jon Taffer runs Taffer’s Tavern around the corner and Guy Fieri operates a bar inside Capital One Arena’s sports book.

Wings in six- to 24-count portions come in varying levels of heat, from mole (none) to mumbo (mild) to “hotter than hell.”

The two-level corner space, which packs in two bars, a lounge area, and multiple dining rooms, most recently housed another pizza place called Vivi — a short-lived, Roman-styled pivot from the owner of Bakers & Baristas.

Cocktails starting at $12 include a Kentucky mule, spiced raspberry mojito, passionfruit martini, margarita, and potent Long Island iced tea, with six-person pitchers available for $45. Draft and bottled beers, wines, and nonalcoholic cocktails are also in the mix.

Basement entertainment like pool, FX Hoops, and Pac-Man fills in a 7th Street NW void left behind by Boardwalk Bar & Arcade, which resurfaced at the Wharf in 2022.

Street Pizza is open daily starting at 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday; 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday (with DJs); and 10 p.m. on Sunday and Monday.
