Make Data Count is an initiative focused on open research data assessment metrics. We seek to drive community-led transparent and meaningful open data metrics so that research data are valued research outputs across scholarly activities, evaluation, and communications.
Partners
DataCite contributes to this community initiative that involves stakeholders across the scholarly communication ecosystem, including institutions, funders, infrastructure providers, researchers and publishers.
Objectives
Make Data Count drives open data metrics by working in three main areas:
- Development of open infrastructure to enable the evaluation of data reuse, such as the global corpus of data citations
- Support the adoption of open data metrics by promoting awareness and capacity building, through community outreach and events such as the Make Data Count Summit
- Collaboration to create incentives for data sharing and evidence on the reuse and impact of open data, e.g. through collaborations with bibliometricians to research data reuse.

Iratxe Puebla
Make Data Count Director
Iratxe joined DataCite in June 2023 as Director of Make Data Count, in this role she supports adoption of open data metrics and the development of the Open Global Data Citation Corpus. Prior to DataCite, Iratxe held editorial roles at the open-access publishers PLOS and BioMed Central and more recently, she worked at ASAPbio, focusing on community engagement with preprints and multi-stakeholder projects related to best practices and adoption of preprints. Iratxe is based in Cambridge (UK), she is passionate about open science and community building, and also has an interest in research reproducibility and publication ethics.
