A 30-year-old former police officer has pleaded guilty to charges filed in connection with a double-fatal wreck he caused while off duty last summer, authorities announced. Amitoj Oberoi, 29, of Somerset, was employed as an Edison police officer at the time of the accident on Route 27 in Franklin Township that killed Carlos Perez-Gayan, a 24-year-old Somerset resident, and Victor Cabrera-Francisco, a 20-year-old North Brunswick resident, as previously reported by Daily Voice. 'Cowboy Hero' Dies After Lightning Strike While Warning Kids On NJ Beach About Storm: Reports
A Toms River man died after a reported lightning strike on an Ocean County beach, authorities said. Patrick Dispoto, 59, was found unconscious on the beach near J Street at around 7:38 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, a Seaside Park Police Department spokesperson told Daily Voice. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said Dispoto had no visible signs of injuries. A 23-year-old East Orange man was recently convicted of aggravated assault after violently beating a woman over a remote control in 2023, authorities said. A 25-year-old Wallington man has been arrested on accusations he had child pornography, police authorities said. A raid of Elvis Daniel Camacho Montilla's home on Lester Street Wednesday, June 19 found that he used the internet to view and download footage depicting nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent children, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. Montilla was charged with third-degree possession of child pornography and held in the Bergen County Jail. The investigation was led under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.
