Cham Refugees Community of Seattle EDI Update: Where Are They Now?

The Cham Refugees Community of Seattle (CRC) is a nonprofit organization that provides Islamic educational, social, and cultural relevant services to Cham and other ethnic minorities in South Seattle and South King County for over 30 years. In May of 2021, we featured our Equitable Development Initiative (EDI) partner for Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month to celebrate our EDI partners who identify as AANHPI. At the time, their goal was to upgrade their existing location in South Seattle into a 12,000 square foot community center. The sharia-compliant development would expand programming for youth, the elderly, and disabled members of the community.

Where are they now?

The CRC are celebrating critical milestones for the development of their Community Center. Since the original video above was published, they received permits for the project, launched a capital campaign, and just this year were awarded a highly competitive Federal Earmark from Congressperson Adam Smith. They expect to break ground in 2025!
