About us
The Cyprus Energy Agency (CEA) is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization, founded in 2009. CEA was co-funded by the European Commission, through the Programme “Intelligent Energy for Europe” and by the Cyprus Union of Communities, for its establishment and first three years of operation. CEA has become an information point for the local society, providing education and vocational training. It participates in projects in partnership with local, European, and international organisations, contributing to innovation, research, and sustainable development. It enhances the role of local authorities in sustainable energy planning, providing technical support for developing and implementing actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change. It supports the Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy initiative, and it has a vision of a just, inclusive, and climate resilient Cyprus, governed by the principles of sustainability. Up to today the Cyprus Energy Agency has participated in more than 70 EU/National projects that cover a wide range of topics, such as Climate change mitigation and adaptation, Energy efficiency, Just transition, Renewable energy sources, Circular economy, Education and awareness, Financing and project facilitation. CEA coordinates a 3.4 M€ funded project (eea and Norway grants) on youth employment with 10 international partners. CEA also leads a contract for Project Development Assistance (funded by the European Commission) to be provided to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth of Cyprus in order to trigger investments of 7.5 Μ € in upgrading 25 school buildings into Nearly Zero Energy Buildings. Since 2022, CEA coordinates and supports four investments approved for funding under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan of Cyprus, to promote energy transition and climate adaptation in local authorities, to tackle energy poverty for disabled people and to mainstream the installation of publicly accessible EV chargers.

Coastal erosion has left regions defenceless against #flooding and high tides, threatening human and #marine life. 🐠 Together, our #Regions4Climate partners are working hard to combat this problem and make their region climate resilient. 🌊 While it’s a natural process, #CoastalErosion can be accelerated by the construction of infrastructure like ports and defensive embankments, as well as the increase in extreme weather events in coastal areas. 🇷🇴 Constanta County in #Romania is a clear example of a region that has found a way to tackle coastal erosion, protect the tourism industry, and safeguard biodiversity in their sea and coastal wetlands. Discover more about the work this region is doing to tackle coastal erosion 👇 https://lnkd.in/epeZrXqA.

🔥 As we increasingly experience the adverse impacts of extreme weather events and climate change, it is vital for governments, organisations, and communities to step up actions to address the challenges. This includes finding solutions for adapting to climatic changes that are already underway. 🛑 Such efforts are on the rise, but a major barrier to progress remains: insufficient investment focus on adaptation initiatives. 🔎 Produced in collaboration with AdaptationUK, a new report by BwB analyses the current state of climate adaptation finance and suggests several innovative strategies that could be deployed to attract funding. The report also includes a case study focusing on adaptation initiatives undertaken in Valencia - Europe’s 2024 ‘Green Capital’. 🔗 We invite you to read the full report at https://lnkd.in/dMQ9MGNR AdaptationUK, Tom Pakenham, Allison Lobb, Harry Wain, Renata Haseth, City of Valencia, City of Glasgow #ClimateChange #InnovativeFinance #ClimateAdaptation

🌿 Exploring effective energy efficiency strategies in schools: Insights from PEDIA! Cyprus Energy Agency is coordinating the PEDIA project (Promoting Energy Efficiency & Developing Innovative Approaches in Schools). It aims to improve energy efficiency and comfort conditions of at least 25 public school buildings in the island. Each of the 25 school buildings selected to participate in the project have previously undergone upgrades to improve their structural integrity and ensure that they can incorporate the energy upgrade measures without concerns regarding any additional loads. The positive impact on indoor spaces contributes to a better educational experience for both students and teachers. Moreover, financial savings from reduced utility bills can be reinvested for further energy upgrades in Cyprus’ school infrastructure! 🔎 Read more about this inspiring project here: https://buff.ly/3W0M373

A wrap-up from yesterday's workshop by resident artist Camila Calegari Marques. Participants experimented with laser cutting techniques, creating stunning wooden table lamps decorated with patterns inspired by Cypriot tradition. The workshop was organized by the Nicosia Municipality, CYENS - Thinker Maker Space and the Cyprus Energy Agency within the framework of the European project HUB-IN (Hubs of Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the Transformation of Historic Urban Areas), which aims to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in Historic Urban Areas (HUA), while preserving their unique social and cultural identity and the environment.
