H4J Internship
The Homies 4 Justice internship builds a network of Oakland young leaders fighting for social justice. Interns learn social justice and job training through community organizing to defund the police and create alternatives to incarceration.
Youth will be engaged in culturally rooted training that includes political education, healing trauma, and leadership development for the defense of our communities against systemic violence and injustice.
Build power with other interns whose families are directly impacted by foster care, immigration, and criminal injustice systems.
Create change in your community by learning community organizing skills and tools to decolonize.
Achieve your personal goals with support from experienced mentors who can connect you to services in the community.

Mentors
Cristina Flores runs the Homies 4 Justice internship program. She leads with an extensive knowledge of the immigration system and a strong understanding of the importance of healing through culture.

How to apply
Homies 4 Justice is a 15 week paid internship that meets 4 – 6 hours a week. The internship is open to youth ages 14 – 18 who have been impacted by the incarceration, immigration, and foster care systems, either directly or through a family member. Interns meet twice a week and have been meeting virtually during shelter-in-place. All activities are socially distanced and Covid-safe.
We provide support with transportation, leadership development, and one on one mentorship. There are two cohorts a year, the first group starts in January and the second group starts in June. They call us once a week to check up on us to make sure everything is fine. This call lets us build a better relationship and they are always willing to help us in our personal life when the support is needed. —Erika
