Seattle City Council hires Brad Harwood as new communications lead

SEATTLE – City Council President Sara Nelson welcomes Brad Harwood as the Legislative Department’s new Communications Director. Harwood brings to the position over a decade of experience in communications and public affairs. Most recently he served as chief communications officer for the City of Bellevue and as a consultant for the City of Tukwila. 

“Brad Harwood is a seasoned communications professional with a solid record of creating successful public information programs,” said Council President Nelson. “We’re fortunate to have his experienced leadership on the team to as this new Council navigates immediate challenges and opportunities to better serve the people of Seattle.”

During his time at Bellevue, Harwood oversaw a team of ten communications professionals and helped the organization navigate a number of critical events and initiatives. He also served as the city’s main spokesperson and managed media relations, emergency public information and public outreach. Prior to Bellevue, Harwood was a communications consultant and a legislative aide for the Metropolitan King County Council. A proud “twin dad” and Seattle resident of over twenty years, he earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Washington and has a J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law. 

Jesse Franz has served in the interim role since April. Harwood begins his new duties effective today.
