President Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance, bringing long simmering concerns about his age to the surface, has left congressional Democrats reeling over the past two weeks. A handful have explicitly called on the president to withdraw from the race, and many more have expressed concern — including former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has refused to say whether or not she personally thinks Biden should run.

But at this point, congressional Democrats largely appear to be resigned to Biden remaining at the top of the ticket. And the party’s most vulnerable incumbents are stuck dealing with the consequences of the president’s obstinance on their own electoral prospects.

Just two Democratic incumbents in competitive districts, Minnesota’s Angie Craig and New York’s Pat Ryan, have explicitly called on Biden to drop out of the race. Two Democrats who represent districts Donald Trump won in 2020 — Maine’s Jared Golden and Washington’s Marie Gluesenkamp Perez — have taken a different approach, saying that they expect Trump to win the presidency.
