It’s time another edition of Mixtapes!, our video interview series where artists reveal their musical tastes by creating a completely off-the-cuff playlist. This time, Lake Street Dive soundtrack celebrities sliding into their DMs, playful musical feuds, and stepping in gum with new shoes.

The perfect song selection can turn a bad situation good and a good situation great. That’s why we connected with Lake Street Dive, experts at sonic curation — as can be heard on their just released new album, Good Together. The pop-soul act tells us exactly what we should be listening to in case we ever find ourselves stepping in gum while wearing new shoes, meeting a younger version of ourselves, or in the midst of a battle with Postmodern Jukebox.

Ahead of their set at this year’s Topeka’s Moon Crush Pink Moon festival, Lake Street Dive dove into a big ol’ hotel bed, got all comfy, and played a round of our favorite game — Mixtapes! As absurd scenario after absurd scenario gets launched at the band, they offer up such tuneful goodies as Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose,” TLC’s “No Scrubs,” Scorpions’ “Rock You Like a Hurricane,” and Boyz II Men’s “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday.”
