Dearest reader, what is to be said, about the foolish decisions made by pop culture writers in the face of a cultural phenomenon like Bridgerton? Since the show’s December 2020 debut, it has radically shifted our idea of what a Regency-era period romance might look like on television, with a racially inclusive cast, the occasional hint of LGBTQ+ characters, and a frank understanding that throughout time, human beings have always been an intriguing, complicated, but most importantly horny species.

It is the latter quality that leads us to today’s folly — an exhaustive look at the show’s ongoing passion for passion. These are characters, after all, who have been raised with epic expectations of the marriage mart, before confronting the conflicts and compromises at its core, and their dalliances with each other (or indeed, sometimes alone) has proven to be quite fruitful entertainment for Netflix, for three seasons now, and surely more to come.

And now, I break character, because after rewatching all 30 produced episodes of Bridgerton (including spin-off series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story) the impossible has occurred — I am now slightly sick of hearing Dame Julie Andrews’ voice, even inside my own head. But my suffering was in the name of a most noble cause: Logging at least 132 scenes from the Netflix drama that brought with them at least a little erotic flavor, and narrowing those scenes down to the 60 most notable moments.

There’s a pretty wide range of horniness on display here, from a daring clasp of hands in a hallway to full-blown oral sex on a staircase. (And the staircase sex isn’t even ranked number one!) Not making the cut were most scenes in which a dude frequents a sex worker (of which there were a lot), along with some of the drier moments of flirtation. (From my notes, at one point during Season 3: “Get it together Violet you have eight children.”)

There are moments driven by love and moments driven by passion and moments driven by frustration and moments driven by… well, horniness is really the best word. Because Bridgerton, like all epic romances, embraces its characters as human beings, full of flaws and desires and bad choices and good intentions. And these scenes below epitomize that.
