Sunset Rubdown, the reunited art rock project fronted by Wolf Parade’s Spencer Krug, has officially announced Always Happy to Explode, their first new album in 15 years. They’ve also shared “Reappearing Rat,” the album’s first single, as well as a slew of 2024 North American tour dates.

Always Happy to Explode will arrive on September 20th via Krug’s label, Pronounced Kroog. Krug had previously reunited his old bandmates for Sunset Rubdown’s first tour since 2009 last year. Now, they’ve got a brand new collection of songs — their first since 2009’s Dragon Slayer. According to a press release, the band recorded Always Happy to Explode “more or less, live off the floor” at The Noise Floor with producer/engineer Jordan Koop.

Their 2024 tour is their second trek since reuniting, and kicks off in Vancouver on October 10th. The Canadian band will then hit cities like Los Angeles, Austin, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York, and Montreal; the tour ends with a show in Toronto on October 30th. See the full list of tour dates below.

Tickets for select dates of Sunset Rubdown’s 2024 tour will first be available via a Live Nation pre-sale beginning on Wednesday, July 10th at 10:00 a.m. local time (use code STRUM). Tickets will go on-sale for the general public on Friday, July 12th at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster. Fans can also grab tickets to all dates of Sunset Rubdown’s tour on StubHub.

“Reappearing Rat,” the first single from Always Happy to Explode, is a mid-tempo gem that chugs along with sweet-and-sour acoustic guitar chords and a relentless drum beat. Krug narrates scenes in which things look to be going the subject’s way, only for the rat to “reappear.” Listen to “Reappearing Rat” below.

Meanwhile, Spencer Krug reunited with his Wolf Parade bandmates back in 2016 for a pair of new albums and tours — most recently, the band put out the 2020 album Thin Mind
