Suicidal Tendencies have dropped their first studio recording with new drummer Jay Weinberg. The track, “Nós Somos Família,” is a Portuguese-language rework of their 1997 track “We Are Family.”

The new version of the celebratory song sees the Los Angeles thrash vets teamed with a host of Brazilian artists who are featured on the track, including Badauí (CPM22), B Negão (Planet Hemp), João Gordo (Ratos De Porao), Rodrigo Lima (Dead Fish), Supla, Fernanda Lira (Crypta, ex-Nervosa), Marcão Britto, and Thiago Castanho (Charlie Brown Jr.), plus skateboarders Sandro Dias and Pedro Barros.

Notably, it’s the first studio recording to feature Weinberg since he joined Mike Muir and company earlier this year following the drummer’s unceremonious exit from Slipknot. Weinberg’s worldclass skills are immediately put on display as the track opens with a blitzing soloed drum roll.

The single was recorded at Estúdio Central (formerly RedBull Station) in São Paulo, Brazil, and with executive producer and the band’s longtime collaborator Alex Palaia. British producer Paul Northfield and Brazilian sound engineer Rico Manzano also worked on the project.

“We’d always talked about like doing a song with some other people,” Muir told Brazilian music journalist Igor Miranda regarding the origins of the collab track [as transcribed by Blabbermouth]. “And my friends got on the phone. We got Jay in the studio, recorded a track. I said, ‘Let me talk to a few people.’ They said, ‘Who would you want me to talk to?’ I mentioned a few people and got everybody in the studio recording on it. And it was just a great to see everybody on FaceTime or whatever doing it, how excited everybody was, how gracious they were with their time and everything. Amazing.”

Fans will be able to catch Weinberg behind the kit when Suicidal Tendencies open for the Original Misfits on August 10th in Austin, Texas, and when they perform at the New England Metal & Hardcore Fest in September (get tickets here).
