Sturgill Simpson has announced a new album and a supporting North American tour — albeit under a different name.

After promising to release only five studio albums under his own name, the country singer will unveil his latest project, titled Passage Du Desir, under his new stage name of Johnny Blue Skies. The eight-song album, which Simpson (err… Johnny Blue Skies) recorded at Clement House Recording Studio in Nashville, TN and Abbey Road Studios in London, England with produced David Ferguson, is set for release on July 12th via his own label, High Top Mountain Records.

To support the release, Simpson his his band —Kevin Black (bass), Robbie Crowell (keys), Laur Joamets (guitar) and Miles Miller (drums) — will embark on the “Why Not? Tour.” Kicking off in mid-September, the 28-date outing marks their first full tour in over four years. Update: Simpson has added second dates in St. Louis, Philadelphia, and Boston.

Tickets are available via Ticketmaster. Tickets will be only transferable outside of Ticketmaster except for shows in Virginia, Illinois, and Utah, and will only be able to be sold at face value.

Simpson released his most recent project, a collection of traditional bluegrass and mountain music called The Ballad of Dood and Juanita, in August 2021.
