View from Adler Spa & Resort

What better way to create relaxed, quality time with a loved one than to hang out for a few days at a quiet, elegant spa resort? Far enough away from all the work and home obligations but close enough to civilization to have all our creature comforts met, the Adler Spa Resort Thermae was the perfect Italian getaway for two globetrotters like my son and me. We chose this Tuscan spot for its easy access to some of our favorite wine regions of the world (Montalcino and Montepulciano) and not too far from the city delights of Florence and Rome.

The picturesque, secluded location has a serene setting and a no-fuss European sensibility instilled in its design detail and superior service. With no phones ringing, no video calls, and no evidence of a single guest working, one can truly kick back and indulge in some much-needed self-care.

This magical free time, carved out of a bustling life of should and musts do is truly an antidote to the never-ending challenge of finding the right work-life balance. That just right blend of purposeful work mixed with the pleasure of travel and leisure time is a juggling act few can ever fully achieve. My son and I are making a conscious effort to be role models for this joyful pairing.

Our days at the Adler Toscana were filled with morning exercise, Spa treatments, long soaks in the thermal baths and lounging under umbrellas with a good book. The abundance of locally grown food served daily was a huge treat; the fruits and veggies, the cheeses, the fresh pasta, the special Chianina beef, and the dozens of daily baked breads and pastries were topped only by the local tomatoes and olives.

On this trip, we chose one day of wine tasting; meandering along winding roads through the vineyards of Montepulciano (Tenuta Valdipiatta was our absolute favorite!) and a stop at the tiny Tuscan town of Monticchiello for a delightful lunch at Ristorante Daria.

Spending uninterrupted time together offers mutual nourishment to any intimate relationship. A sense of belonging and love bubbles up when we feel tightly connected. Support and affection from a loved one are some of life’s greatest gifts. The tenderness of these moments does not go unrecognized by me and choosing a special place to comfortably just be makes it even more meaningful.

Tuscany countryside

The beauty of the countryside is everywhere in Tuscany. It feels easy to wake up early to breathe in the scent of earth and listen to the chatter of birds. Being surrounded by centuries of history, with its ancient trees and hillsides somehow also linked us more deeply to the natural world and closer to one another.

Spending time creating meaningful memories and fun-filled experiences nourishes the relationships you care about most. What are you waiting for?
