Description

On 24 January 1964 the Representative Committee of National Women’s Hospital met to make arrangements for the opening of the new hospital building by Her Majesty the Queen Mother. A guest list was drawn up, seating plans arranged, and a tour route through the new building was planned.

Various medical and charitable services had been available on the Green Lane site, starting with the Costley Home for the aged poor, opened in 1890. TB patients were cared for from 1910, and in 1912 a nurses’ home was built. In 1946 an Obstetrical and Gynaecological Unit was established on the site.
