A summary follows: - Multinational companies from Germany, Argentina, Spain, China, Italy, and Canada lead significant renewable energy projects in Colombia, some initiated during the Duque administration and realized under the Petro government. - Funding for infrastructure often involves multilateral institutions like the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), supporting Colombia's energy transition. - Transnational companies like Enel, Abo Wind, Grenergy, Black Orchid Solar, Three Gorges Corporation, and Electryon Power are instrumental in developing renewable energy projects in Colombia. - Italian multinational Enel has emerged as a major solar energy producer in Colombia, with numerous solar farms in operation since 2018, despite challenges like the delayed Windpeshi park. - Grenergy, originating from Spain, has contributed significantly to Colombia's renewable energy sector, with solar farms like Cerritos, La Medina, and Los Caballeros supplying energy to thousands of homes in Tolima. - Argentina-based Black Orchid Solar focuses on solar energy projects in Colombia, while Spanish company Acciona is engaged in renewable energy projects in La Guajira. - Chinese state electricity company Three Gorges Corporation is responsible for the Yarumo project in Baranoa Atlántico, scheduled for operation in 2024. Electryon Power, led by engineer Álvaro Torres, is involved in several projects, including Helios Lanceros and Helios Tolima, with further plans for the Amon-H2 wind farm. Resisting Energy Transition? – New PRIF Spotlight: https://lnkd.in/d_5P8CDA La Guajira in northern Colombia has seen a disproportionate number of roadblocks recently, especially connected to wind park construction sites, staged by people demanding that the state implement economic, social, and physical security improvements. This conflict is an example of local impacts of the global energy transition on historically marginalized people. In this Spotlight Martin G. and Elena García Conejero argue that La Guajira is a prime case showing how the energy transition is leveraged to indirectly address the state through private companies. GREEN AMMONIA TAKES CENTER STAGE IN SANTIAGO [BNamericas] Green ammonia was put under the spotlight in Chile's first industry-focused conference dedicated to the fuel and feedstock. Given their respective world class solar and wind resources, Chile´s Antofagasta and Magallanes regions are blinking on investors radars. Green ammonia, thanks mainly to its relative ease of transport and versatility, is drawing much interest, particulary among potential exporters. Chile and the rest of the region need to think "strategically and pragmatically" to take advantage of its competitive edge, Gonzalo Moyano, CEO of Chilean green ammonia project developer Grupo MAE Renewable Energy, said during the conference, NH3 Event Latam, being held last week in capital Santiago. LATAM's #lithium beyond the triangle. 🔺 Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile together form the "Lithium Triangle" region in South America. However, the landscape of #CriticalMineral interest is broadening, with countries like #Brazil and #Mexico actively pursuing the development of their lithium reserves. With fewer reserves and neighbours, Brazil diverges from its counterparts by extracting lithium through hard rock mining of spodumene found in pegmatite formations, known for their richer lithium content. However, Mexico faces some regulatory hurdles in extracting lithium due to its presence within clay deposits and identified reservoirs in areas with severe water stress. Sproule's recent publication, #LatinAmerica and Caribbean Energy Outlook, captures these dynamic shifts and other critical analyses. The report delves into the evolving energy market across the region, highlighting both emerging challenges and opportunities. The full report is available now on our website. https://lnkd.in/gkcU7EKf
